  • If I were in charge of the tax codes, I would tax businesses and not individuals. As the tax code is written, though, everyone pays taxes unless they earn below a threshold of income, do not purchase any taxable items, and do not own any property or a vehicle.

      Absolutely, but this rewards those who attempt to be prudent and/or self-sufficient.
  • Everyone should pay their fair share. The poor do get breaks already. And rich hire accountants that learn how to hide their income in investments. If you only tax the rich why should they stay here just to pay more tax? That was proved with higher rates in one state up the NE coast not long ago. They moved their yachts to the lower tax zone.

      Food stamps are not taxed because that would be taking money from one government coffer and putting it into another. There's no point. I don't think government grants are taxed either, but I don't know.
  • Why shouldn't they? Aren't they also using the benefits paid for by taxes? I'm a big believer in a flat tax. Everyone pays 10%, no exceptions.
