  • In the 1860's?! He died in 1863. I'd say that for most of the 1860's, he was just chillin, not thinking about anything at all. From 1859-1861, he was governor of Texas, as it seceded from the USA, so, at least for a few months of the 1860's, I'd say that his "love" of the United States could not even be brought up without sarcasm.
