  • I love cayenne pepper. I stopped eating ketchup when I was about 7 or 8.

I decided to get away from fried foods around the end of the '90's because of my cholesterol - it didn't make a difference. But that's when I stopped eating bacon sausage burgers and fries and consequently most of the ketchup I ate was on the burgers and fries. I like and use cayenne, but will settle for crushed red pepper in soups. Paprika just doesn't cut it! But I prefer habanero when I can get it. I used to grow them and mix them in my mayo.

Oooh, habaneros are getting serious. I've tried slicing them really thin and putting them (fresh) on salads and sandwiches, but they are just mean little peppers. I grew them in the garden one year and some unfortunate squirrel came along and ate them. I was mad, but I also felt really sorry for it!

I'm growing them again. If you want the heat in your salad, I'd suggest you mix/ blend it into your salad dressing. I'm surprised the squirrel would eat them! But maybe you meant the plants themselves and not the pepper.

You don't develop cholesterol problems from food. The body gets around 25% of its cholesterol from food - it's used in the nervous system and other functions. The rest of the body's cholesterol needs is manufactured by the liver - as needed. High cholesterol is caused by chronic dehydration. Its purpose is to cover damaged tissues caused by acidic blood that is pumped through the arteries under high pressure. Once the conditions that cause it are corrected, the body can make the needed repairs and the cholesterol will dissolve when it's no longer needed.
  • ive never been into ketchup rnuch
  • In order of preference/use: Banana pepper relish. Chili sauce. Ketchup. Mayo. Wasabi-mustard mix. Pimento cheese spread.
  • Hoisin sauce. It doesn't really taste great but a dash or dollop of it somehow makes nearly everything you add it to taste better. Very strange stuff.
  • Sugar Free Ketchup (0 points on Weight Watchers).
  • Nope. As long as there are Tater Tots and fried chicken, I'll be buying a bottle of ketchup every week or two. I don't use any condiment "on almost everything". I use ketchup, mayo, brown mustard, beer mustard with wasabi, banana pepper relish, and tartar sauce...each for different things.
  • I never was a huge ketchup fan, but yes, I've been eating even less than in the past (why: fewer burgers!). My go-to condiment is, of course...SALT.
  • i use tomato sauce here ..i love it on chips and snags ,but never on steak..or on plain buttered bread once in a blue moon
  • Where do you get your facts? Hot dogs and meatloaf are as popular as ever, and both commonly use ketchup. I don't buy it as much as I used to because both hot dogs and meatloaf contain a lot of calories that I try to avoid. I do love ketchup on scrambled eggs and omelets, but I don't make those often enough to keep a bottle of ketchup on hand.
  • I really only rarely use ketchup. I like it on a burger, fries or tater tots and scrambled eggs. That's about it. Sriracha hot sauce or pico pica hot sauce are 2 of my favorite condiments. We always keep it in the house though, for the great grandkids who love the stuff. One of them told me that ketchup was her "favorite vegetable".
  • Garlic mayonnaise is my go-to condiment
