The article only says it's "unlikely", and it indicates that as we age, that very function that allows our bodies to put off sneezing, passing gas etc, can begin to fail. So, it is possible, depending upon age and certain health factors.

And that's exactly why I said "NORMALLY" so my statement/ question is still valid. Thank you very much!
  • I'll be damned, I wake myself up sometimes. :P
    • Linda Joy
Probably you started to wake first and then the noise finished waking you up?
  • I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing that lol.
    • Linda Joy
But thanks to me you didn't!
  • Apparently that doesn't apply to dogs, because sometimes my dog goes to town. He has a sensitive belly though.
    • Linda Joy
Poor doggy. At least he has you to look after it for him.
  • "Did you know we don't normally fart in our sleep?" Then you guys need to learn to relax. LOL
    • Linda Joy
What does that have to do with it? Did you read the article?

Yeah, but I was trying to make a joke. I guess it didn't translate. On a serious note, though, I don't think "somnoflatulence" is really a troubling sign for health, which I'm not certain the article is stating (but it might be interpreted that way), even if it can be. It's "common" but not normal. Much like snoring. I mean, if you snore, it could mean something is wrong with your health, but, in most people's cases, it just means that they aren't as young as they used to be. Similarly, the systems that keep the butt buckled up tight during sleep wear out with age, and gas slips out easier than other things, so it's not really that big of a deal if people do it regularly.

Oh, now I get it. I don't think they were saying is a troubling sign for health. And the whole question was a joke, based on truth, nonetheless.
  • no but now i do
  • My man farts in his sleep and he snores, no faking there.
