We usually use the word 'love' (which is a much stronger emotion that 'like') when we refer to people or, maybe, animals but we use 'like' for items that we will eat, wear etc. and could use to refer to our feelings about doing certain things e.g. hiking, collecting stamps, writing songs etc. We would not use love for such things.

If you love something you can't get enough of it. If you like something then you can stand to not have it all the time.

Intensity of emotion and attachment. In the case of romantic love, it usually also includes sexual desire.
