How good are foldable bikes for long-distance touring?
I have done long-distance trips on my foldable bike and it was fabulous for distances and managing hills, but it's a complete pain to deal with when it comes to long-distance transportation, especially in countries where one has to box/bag it for planes, buses, and trains (which of course is problematic because you can't just get off and ride away -- you have to find a place to recycle the box, and on the return trip, if you box it up, you can't ride to the transportation terminal anymore). In some places, non-foldable bikes aren't even allowed on trains at all or laws are extremely vague as to whether or not you can. Foldable bikes are permitted on almost anything anywhere in the world, but has anyone had experience doing long-distance touring on a foldable bike, and if so, how much more difficult is it from touring on a good 700c bicycle? What's a good foldable bike for touring?
