  • Alot depends on your build and where you have the tatoo, the closer to a bone, the more it hurts. Shoulder blade hurts alot, take it from me. Lower arm was not too bad. Be Brave :-)
  • Pinch your belly button area as hard as you can. Then, imagine having that amount of pain multiplied by 50. That's how much it hurts. Multiply that amount of pain by 3 and that's how much it hurts getting it off. I hope this helps.
  • Fat covered places hurt less than boney places. Mine are never too painful, like a skinned knee. My friend described it like bee stings, or nettles. It depends on your pain tolerance. But if they were unbearable, there wouldn't be so many people with them.
  • some places hurt more than others. if you're female the time of month you do it will effect how much pain you feel (highest pain tolerance at ovulation). if they have to go over an area a few times that will hurt more. basically, expect A LOT of pain and you'll find it easy. its one of those you pay in pain for something you really want type things.
  • I didnt have really any pain with 2 of mine then i got one round my ankle the outline was fine it was the colouring in, now that hurt but it was on thin skin.
  • I have 6 tattoos, depending on where i got mine depended on how much it hurt, my ankle didnt hurt until it got to the achillies*sp?* tendon and then it didnt hurt too bad, the upper arm doesnt hurt, the back is a little painful *at least on me* felt like hot razors going down my spine, the feet hurt felt like someone was stabbing me... It all depends on your pain tollerance i have a friend who has tattoo's in some of the same places as me and she cried and i didnt make a sound. Make 100% sure where you want it and what you wanna get, i know so many people who hate theirs now or where they pout them, and it may be an easy coverup or laser it off, but thats more money you didnt have to spend in the long run.
  • I have four. Each was tolerable pain. It's like taking a thumb tack or a pin (better example) and pushing it slightly into your skin in the same exact spot for a few seconds. Some places hurt more than others. But I have four and look forward to about three more. It's a tolerable pain, like an ant bite, except over and over.
  • Outlining is fairly tolerable pain, but colouring feels like they're ripping off your skin. Mine was done on the lower back and from what my friends told me, the tattooist used what looked blade-like row of needles to "scrape" the ink in. And why do you care if it hurts or not, unless you want a tattoo done. If its the pain you're afraid of then dont get it at all.
  • Well, I just got my first tatoo yesterday and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In certain areas and spots the tatoo will begin to hurt but it's totally bearable if there's more meat than bone. It kind of feels like a stinging vibration. ESPECIALYY when the color in or go over the outline. But I am getting another one they aren't too bad. I've been hurt worst falling.
  • I got my first tattoo yesterday, on my shoulder area. (possibly one of the least painful places?) Well it seriously didnt hurt at all. It doesnt matter what size, (as you will have to experience it going into you anyway) what detail it will always stay the same pain all the way through it, with your individual threshold to the pain. It probably does begin to numb itself anyway after about 15 minutes. Mine is only small, but i love it. Hope to get more, wasnt particuarly nervous when getting it as i quite looked forward to having that drilling sensation around my skin. A lot of people say the beginning really hurts, in any location. Surprisingly it didnt, not for me anyway. I never felt him even put it inside my skin at all. Some people say it hurts at the top of the arm, shoulder area so it must depend on your own tolerance to pain. Dont think of it as being a continuous prick of a needle going in and out of your skin over and over, because it doesnt feel like that. It felt like a slight scratch on the top of my skin, the vibration was the most i felt, not the actual in and out sensation, you hardly feel it. To me it was not a needle feeling, it was quite pleasurable. Just think of n electric machine touching your skin and moving around slightly burning but only a tiny bit, not constant pain over and over, its just slight pain in each area he goes over, which for me was nothing. But seriously, its not like a multiplied pain of constant pinches or whatever, it just feels like one teeny pain once in the area he goes over.
  • It depends where you get them and how much detail. My foot hurt the worst because there are a gazillion bones in there... Also your tolerance to pain is a big factor. Also if you are female wait til after that special time of the month... =)
  • I love the pain! Its like a burning and sharp pain, but as you watch the design appear its all worth it! Its really a strange pleasure pain thing...
  • I have three. One on my low back, and one by each hip bone. I actually liked getting all 3 of them. As crazy as it may sound, I found them relaxing! HOWEVER...Friday, I think I'm going to go get one on the top of my foot. I've never really been freaked out about getting one yet, but I keep hearing about LOTS of pain involved with the top of the foot. I figure that since I've made it through 3 tatts now, and have given birth 2 times, I'll sail through with flying colors! Anyone have any experiences with the tops of their feet? (try not to freak me out!)
  • It depends on what area of your body you are putting them on and HOW SENSITIVE you are....
  • i have 7 and they do not hurt that much in my opinon, i had painful times and non painful times i have 2 on my upper arm and i did not hurt 1 little bit (but my older bro had a band and left about an inch at the back of arm as he couldnt stand it much longer) 2 on wrist, which again did not hurt at all 1 on my shoulder blade, which in genral did not hurt but the higher on the blade he got the more painful it was. i have 2 on my stomach and they was the most painful 1 got a large one on 1 side and lasted like 2 hours and the closer to my side and closer to my belly button and closer to my boob he got was a killer!! and for some reson the last little it was yellow (tiny bits) which hurt the most! the other 1 was small and a lot lower (in line with my hip) and it hurt more then the others but not that bad i got the large 1 1st so it didnt put me off lol i want a few more, lower back (which ive been told hurts) and my ankle (again hurts bad) but people told me that about the wrist and i didnt feel even a scratch anyway my most painful tattoo is my faveroute so its all totally worth it and some people say the more pain the better your tattoo is...
  • Have you ever fallen off a ladder? try that first.
  • This is something I'd like to know too as I am thinking of getting a couple of small tattoos (no more than about 3 cm high) on my lower arms or ankles. What part would hurt the most? Also, I am in early middle age. Is that too old to get a tattoo? I still have fairly good skin and not many wrinkles. It has taken years to get my courage up to even think about getting it done. I look very straight - will the people in a tattoo shop think I'm weird? The idea of getting one in any place where I can't see the needle go in doesn't appeal eg. on my back, bottom, or shoulder and I've heard shoulder tattoos are especially painful to get.
  • I got my tattoo a lil above my ankle bone. I was so nervous because I thought it was going to hurt really bad. Sure, it did hurt. I mean it's a needle going into your skin. But it wasn't AS bad as I thought it was going to be. Plus, for my first tattoo it was a pretty decent sized tattoo. It was a butterfly as well. He also did a great job the person who did it and he did it fast. He also told me it depends on the needle they use too. If they don't use the right needle it can tear up the tattoo and your skin afterwards. I'm glad we got an appt there instead of the other place I wanted to go. He was great and even though he went fast doing the tattoo, I would of rather had that than someone going slow and making it too painful! :)
  • Right, im getting a tattoo in a couple of weeks on the top of my thigh, i wondered has anybody else had one here? and does it hurt?
  • That depends on a lot of things. Where it is, how big it is, how much detail you want and how much tolerance to pain you have. I have a small one on my upper thigh and yes, it hurt, but I became interested in watching the guy do it and pretty much forgot the pain. It wasn't that bad, actually.
  • It hurts, also you can get Hepatisis C from it...be careful don't believe a place is clean...Pamela Anderson thinks she got it from tatoos..
  • IT REALLY DEPENDS WHERE YOU GET IT I HAVE ONE IN MY INNER LIP THAT I DIDNT EVEN FEEL WHEN THE GUY WAS DOING IT. THE ONE ON MY LOWER PELVIS DID HURT A LITTLE BUT NOT AS MUCH AS THE ONE ON MY SPINE I HAVE CHINESE LETTERS AND BUTTERFLIES AND STARS AND IM OT GOING TO LIE IT HURT LIKE A B---- THE TATTOO ARTIST TOLD ME THE CLOSER TO TE BONE THE MORE IT WILL HURT BUT IT JUST DEPENDS ON WELL YOU CAN TAKE PAIN I REMBER MY LEGS WERE SHAKING WHEN HE DID THE SPINE ONE BUT IT DOESNT HURT WHEN HE IS GOING OVER IT BECAUSE THE NEEDLE HAS ALREADY GONE IN JUST THINK REALLY HARD ABOUT WHAT YOUR GOING TO GET CAUSE REMBER IT WILL BE THERE FOREVER
  • Im only 14, and yeah they hurt. It all depends on your pain tollerance. I have one on my neck and forearm. When i got the one on my neck it felt like a bunch of little knives stabbing me over and over, but for the forearm barely felt it. ;P
  • depends
  • I have one and I never felt A THIHG..but it was only two little words. above the ankle,
  • I betcha lots worse on yer eyelids or foreskin, huh? ;-)
  • I have two tattoos, both on upper arms, and the pain was tolerable. Definitely not comfortable, but not so much that I would refuse to have another one. I found the first 5 minutes hurt the most then you sort of tune it out and don't really feel it so much. Bony places hurt more.
  • I am heavily tattooed every part of my body except my butt yes every part. You are being stuck with needles 3600 times a minute. Pain is relative
