How about more simply a human heart is associated with red , love comes from the heart.

In ancient times there were considered to be four elements; Earth, air, fire and water. Everything was divided between these four elements. Romantic love tended to be associated with fire. Red was the color most associated with fire, and so red became the color of passion.

Red is the color of love because it is the color of blood. Blood signifies martyrdom, sacrifice, loyalty (blood oaths), and kinship ties (family and marriage). Romantic love is also red because it represents burning desire to be with the beloved, fiery emotions, and the loss of virginity by showing the bloodied bed sheet after the wedding.
