  • Matthew 7:1-5 without a dobut: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." Christian's often use this verse against other denominations/sects of Christianity in order to defend their own beliefs. Atheists use it out of context as well. An excellent article on the verses can be found at: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2165131/bible_misquotes_the_effect_of_misusing.html?cat=34 I am an atheist by the way. +3
  • As Z-Weezy mentioned... judge not is a great candidate, not only for the reason he said, but that teaching also gives the formula for being forgiven by God. "Forgive others and God will forgive you." That's the part that has been neglected since it suggests that it is our actions that will bring judgement on us rather than what we believe. The most misused? John 3:16 This is the one that gets my vote for the most misused: it's John 3:16... "God so loved the world that he gave etc." That verse is presented as if it is about the Crucifixion, which it is not. Look at the context of that verse and you will find that it is about the Spirit of God and the light of God... not that he died for the sins of the world. http://gospelenigma.com will give more details and highlight the many other verses that are misused, ignored, and taken out of context. Thanks for the interesting question.
  • 1. Turn the other cheek. 2. If take to court to get cloak give also your tonic 3. If walk 1 go with him 2 -- They are all 3 about passive resistance. - 1--Turn the other cheek is specfically about hitting the right cheek so knowing that used only there right hand to do things with So it you offer the left in order to hit it you must hit with a fist or slap but cannot backhand (demeaning) So you may get a beating but the abuser had to treat you as an equal to do it. - 2-Take Tonic give also Cloak-- Back then people only wore there tonic and used the cloak as a blanket at night. Back then it was illegal to see someone naked in public. So to also give them the tonic makes you naked and they are in trouble for seeing you. - 3-If ask you to go 1 mile go with them 2-- The roman soldiers were allowed to have people carry their gear for 1 mile any more than that and the soldier would be arrested for it. So to go the 2nd mile got the roman soldier in trouble. -- Passive Resistance http://ncronline.org/blogs/road-peace/offer-no-violent-resistance-sermon-mount-part-3
  • not sure, seems like a lot of them are misused
  • Genesis 1:1-31. By this, I mean a strict acceptance that God created every star, tree, animal, person and rock in 6 days, to the exclusion of science. Our understanding continues to grow with the passing millennia. What more could God want of us? Psalm 8:6 "You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet" If the stars are also the work of God's hand, shouldn't we look as far for the hidden things?
  • Psalm 115:16 to God the heavens belong, but the earth he has given to the sons of men. This verse, at times, is not taken into consideration when explaining the condition of the dead.
  • With no surprise, Revelation 22:18-19. This is a warning that is given specifically to those who distort the Bible. That's the reason why Cafeteria Christianity exists.
