Not to be too picky, but "Christian" is not the opposite of "atheist". There are plenty of theists who don't think that much of Christianity.

While I agree with HasntBeen's answer, Most of the major religions, Christians, Muslims and Jews all worship the same God. They all share a common set of religious traditions. They all follow monotheistic faiths. They all claim to trace their beliefs back to Abraham, an important figure who is believed by the faithful to have been the first worshipper of God as an exclusive, monotheistic deity. Supposing that this is the God put forth in this question, It is not what I have seen, it is what I have NOT seen that describes my unwillingness to subscribe to any Divinity. I see no evidence of a God as described in any of the holy books from any of these religions. Whereas God had a habbit of showing himself in these books, He has been strangly absent from the world for the past few thousand years. No "Burning Bush", No fire and brimstone, no parting of the seas...Where is He???

A young girl in America last year became very sick. Instead of seeking medical help, her parents prayed for her to get better, believe God would help and failing that, it was obviously Gods will. The paramedics weren't called until she had already stopped breathing, she died of something that would normally have been treatable. They got a slap on their wrists, a short sentence. They smiled as the verdict was read and they stand by their opinion that their child dying was Gods will. After all, why else would it happen?

The story about the couple that let their child die because they prayed for her, instead of take her to the hospital when she was sick.

Im going to answer this assuming that by Christianity you mean Theism and the negative effects of organized religion in general. and I would say that the most ridiculous thing I have seen recently is a documentary called Jesus Camp. The sermons I heard given to young children in there were nothing more than fear pedaling indoctrination meant to scare children into believing in Jesus. That shit makes me sick.

When, especially the fundamentalist church leaders see that they have people believing in the supernatural, they see that as their opening to preach any kind of baloney and BS that comes to mind and be able to find a passage somewhere in the bible that seems to do a good enough of a job to confirm what they preach.. and say 'that is higher wisdom' to anyone who grumbles that they don't quite get it or say 'you are still blinded because you haven't accepted Christ' to the non- believer.

Christians believe their Faith is the true one, the one established by the Real God. Then I have been thinking that Religion is a Cultural component of every society. Just thinking that if when I was born I would have been adopted by a Jewish family I would be a Jew...or if I would have been adopted by Iranians and had grown up in Iran I would be a proud Muslim....makes me believe that Christianity and every single religion on this Planet is a cultural delusion designed to control and manipulate societies in general. That's why I stop believing in all kinds of religions.
