  • I asked about this morning on here. I was told today google is celebrating the first bar code patent.
  • I noticed it. Must be commemorating something. Last Saturday they spelled it 'Googlle' to commemorate their 11th anniversary. Here it is, 57th anniversary of the barcode label: http://features.csmonitor.com/innovation/2009/10/07/google-barcode-logo-latest-in-doodle-line/
  • I just noticed that too. I wondered if they were tracking me in a new way. lol They don't need a bar code to know exactly where you went online if that was what you were worried about. They already know about those "special sites" you visit lol.
  • I mean, I not a guy, But thats like so annoying I know!!!So cool though!! Peace!
  • I searched for it and find that there is nothing to worry about it. Please see this search result. http://features.csmonitor.com/innovation/2009/10/07/google-barcode-logo-latest-in-doodle-line/
  • Any time google has a funny looking graphic, click on it and it will tell you what occasion they are marking.
  • I noticed and was curious about it too.
  • Here you go, Jen: . If you’ve “Googled” something today, you may have noticed that the Google logo for the day is none other than a barcode. While Google typically changes its logo for certain holidays, what is the significance of the barcode today? Today, October 7, 2009, is the 57th anniversary of the first patent of the barcode, so Google changed their logo to commemorate this important event in history. Norman Woodland and Bernard Silver filed the first patent in October of 1949, which was then granted patent No. 2,612,994 on October 7, 1952. Although the patent was granted in 1952, barcodes were not implemented until June 26, 1974. Thus, the 57th anniversary of the first patent is today, while the barcode experienced its 35th birthday on June 26, 2009. While it may have taken 22 years to take the barcode from a patent to a full implementation, the barcode continues to be used in today’s world of business.
  • Yeah im guessing you dont notice they only change it when there is a certin holiday or something important coming up
  • Yeah, they randomly change things like that on google from time to time.
  • What bar code?? What is that??
  • ive noticed it, it dosnt bother me cause its just for 24hr. :)
  • if you hold your mouse over it it will always tell you why its there. It's because it's the anniversary of the invention of the bar code. if that was there permanently, though, it would definetely be creepy...
  • gogle has so many different symbols now it didn't bother me at all. however i wonder if that barcode spells google?
  • I noticed it as soon as that change was made. Never cared why it was there though.
  • Oh, I missed it!
