My spell checker kicked in for grandad but not granddad.

It's so much easier and quicker if you go to www.dictionary.com Even if you spell it incorrectly it will say "did you mean?" - and offer an alternative spelling.

The Concise Oxford English Dictionary spells it Grandad, and Granddad is offered as a variant. Webster's spells it Granddad, and Grandad is offered as a variant. Both are acceptable and correct. Perhaps double D is more American, and single is more British?

They both seem to be words in the dictionary, So i suppose both are ok. I have always said it Grandad

It would be grand-dad but I personally never seen it writen. Usually in most cases they use grandfather.
