  • reckless driving ticket. and not be able to look at Spicy a whole week.
  • Use of cell phone while driving is about $10 or Rs.500 in India.
  • You should text "I won't text while driving again" one hundred thousand times!
  • You should lose your license for a while. You obviously don't know how to drive safely so you shouldn't be allowed to drive at all.
  • The texter could be put in a room and asked to text copy the entire book of his religion on cell phone. He could be set free once he finishes the punishment texting.
  • A $500 fine or something crazy like that.
  • Only if you hit me while doing it.
  • defenitely, something high like 1 grand, there was a person killed by a texting bus driver around here in april i think
  • Cell phone shoved up the arse and a $1,000 fine.
  • i think a 500 fine and proof that a blue tooth has been bought and the cell phone provider must disconnect texting services for 1 yr. i know you can do the turning off texting because i had my turned off. (i can be texted or typed to online; if you are using a phone use your voice.) great question ! +5
  • The person should be tied to a pole at the side of a road, then have 100 cars drive past them on the road at top speed, while the drivers of those cars have to write a specific message on their mobile phone. If this was to genuinely happen, they shouldn't have anything to worry about, since they think it's perfectly acceptable, but watch as they shit their pants at it actually happening, the hypocritical arseholes.
  • You betcha'! There's no excuse for that.
  • My personal take on this, being a motorcycle rider, is that anyone doing anything in addition to driving should lose their license for one year on the first offense, and permanently on the second. Things like eating, talking on a cellphone, texting, etc. distract one from the primary task of focusing all one's attention on driving. I've had people on cellphones ( especially young women, for some reason ) look me right in the eye and pull out in front of me.
  • They should loose their cell phone or drivers license for a year and a large fine. If caught again loose both and double the fine
  • Short of installing a cell phone jammer in the offender's car, there isn't much that can be done to prevent someone from doing it again. Just give them fine that increases exponentially with each repeat.
  • Public removal of the offending thumb. 1st offense. Public removal of the offending eye(s) for 2nd. +6
  • For texting or talking on a cell phone while driving minimum fine $500. Required safe driving classes. Causing an accident, $1000 fine and 90 days in jail suspension of drivers license for a year. With safe driving classes before return of license. Causing an accident with bodily injurey to another or death, $50,000 to $200,000 fine, 1 year in jail or 5 years in jail if death occures and perminent loss of drivers license. Judges with guts enough to enforce the laws to the full extent regardless
  • A . . . . .ONE THOUSAND. . . . .PAGE . . . . .essay on "The Dangers of Texting While Driving"!
  • Loss of driving privileges for a year and the sale of your vehicle with the proceeds going to support children without adequate medical care.
  • A $500 fine, and driver's license suspension for a month.
  • I believe that anyone holding a cell phone while driving should be fined no less than $500 , Get 120 Hours of Community Service at a local E/R , and lose their driving privledges (license) for a MINIMUM of 90 days ... 1st Offense . Each additional offense would be WORSE penalty yet.
  • take away your can
  • I think it should be a mandatory 6 month DL suspension with 100 hours of community service and at least a 1,000 dollar fine. These people are no different than drunks that are impaired and kill people and cause accidents while operating a motor vehicle.
  • I think the current anger about driving while talking on the cell or texting is misplaced. I see people putting on make-up, shaving and reading the paper while driving. The law should be broader-something like not taking either hand off the wheel for more than 15 seconds.
  • This guy is crazy!!!
  • Throw them in a room with a bunch of 13 year old girls and new iPhones!! "Oh my gosh Oh my gosh!" "Look I can text faster then You"! 'Hey look I can text 100 words a minute standing on my head"!!"I am going to text Bobby..what should I say!" That would be serious punishment!!!:):)LOL:)
  • I think they should have their drivers license suspended just like a drunk driving charge and given a $1000. fine. While texting they are as equally impaired as they would be while drunk, in my opinion.
  • This past Thursday, The New York Senate voted to outlaw texting while driving and is looking to set fines at up to $150. Unfortunately, they would only impose them as a secondary offense if the driver is pulled over for breaking another law. I'd like to see it taken even more seriously myself.
  • They should take your cellphone on the spot and make you run over it with your car.
  • same as using a cell phone, it is a cellphone isnt it? ITs i big fine here, i don't know if its national though.
  • A hefty fine; minimum of $500 and a class where they learn how truly dangerous it is to text while driving; and what damage they could cause themselves or someone else. A film that shows all the footage like the stupid guy in California who was driving the disabled when he slammed into the van in front of him and any other footage of damage done by an idiot that was texting while driving (or otherwise engaged) with interviews from family members who've lost a loved one to a fool who killed someone while texting. At the end of the class (should inconvenience them with classes for at least one day a week for 2 months); they should be required to sign a contract stating they have gone through this course and if there is ever a second offense, they will lose thier licens for a year; no questions asked. Good question by the way.
  • its already law here in Australia ... big fine and loss of points of your licence
  • Your car in a tree.
  • Crashing.
  • first i think no kids under 16 should have a cell.....we may can get more of their attention from 12 to 16.and then at 16 ,if texting while driving, mandatory loss of them til 18...but any punishment is a start, child or adult.... i know it is illegal on ALL military bases in the US.....
  • If i were in charge...a kick in the head, but otherwise Suspension of licence. It's going to be illegal to drive while operating a cell phone in Canada very soon.
  • They should take away YOUR PHONE!!!JK
  • Tough call. It's definitely causing some very unsafe driving. I see people doing it all the time now - mostly young people. Fine them whenever possible. For multiple offenses (excessive), license revocation for a period of time. Cell phones and texting are the new bane on societal safety. People aren't even looking or using directionals because they're talking on the phone and won't even turn their head to check anymore. They've cut me off several times.
  • First Offense 30 days in jail and a fine of $1000 I don't think there would be a second offense. Talking on cell phones while driving or texting (even worse) is selfish and potentially deadly. These people will end up killing someone. They need to be nipped in the bud. They believe rules are for everyone but them..they are wrong. :(
  • Make the texter wear huge, clunky gloves for a month so he can't text.
  • In this day and age, it would probably be a "Time Out" or an "AB -5 DR"! As you know, I'm old! They stopped using the public whipping post several years ago...but it WAS still available for use during my lifetime...in Delaware. +5
  • a big fine, they get to keep their license so the cops can give them a bigger fine next time.
  • A huge fine. 100€ sounds about right. It's very risky to do anything while driving.
  • Text messaging is a technology that eludes me, eventhough I work in the field of Technology. I tell my children and everyone else that I want to hear a human voice, not to read a few words typed in some sort of code on a screen smaller than a pack of matches. I think texting is highly overrated. It makes sense to use it when you're unable to call or stuck in a loud bar. There's a great line from the movie "He's Just Not Into You". A woman tells another: "I had this guy leave me a voice-mail, so I called him at home, and then he e-mailed me to my Black Berry, and so I texted to his cell, and now I just have to go around checking all these different portals just to get dumped by seven different technologies." But no one should text while driving--that's a given. If people are using thumbs to type-texting, that means they're driving with their pinkies or their knees. And that sounds like failure to control and reckless operation to me. In my city the City Counsil voted 19-2 to ban TWD. First time caught, $100, 2nd time $250. Each additional one is $500.
  • yea i think so
  • u r banned 4 2 yrs.
  • community service
  • Two things, first, a fine. Probably $100 would suffice. Secondly, if they were texting and caused an accident, and someone was killed, fine and jail time. The amounts of the fine and jail time would depend on the circumstances. +5
  • your fingers glued together.
  • Well, since they're obviously bent on suicide, oblige them... Kidding. A good, stiff fine - $100 or so - for the first offense. Then, if they absolutely can't give it up, increasing fines and the possibility of having one's driver's license revoked sounds good to me. It's me and my family they're endangering.
  • Death.
  • Perhaps writing a long disertation on the hazards of texting while driving should do the trick.
  • off with their head.
  • A hundred dollar fine.
  • Paraplegia.
  • Cigar cutter. Insert their thumbs... They will learn from one mistake. ;)
  • License suspension.
  • Continual texting to nobody in a holding room for several hours. Encourage regular communication.
  • Thumb Cuffs. Chinese style.
  • I don't have terribly strong feelings on the issue, but I know that it's now illegal in Colorado. No clue if it's a primary or secondary offense, but I still do it from time to time.
  • Enough restrictions already. Too many rules is not good. Just think of people with young kids in the car! Is that enough distractions for you? Between the yelling and all, you do not think about safe driving. They will drive you nuts! Is next law no kids in the car because they will distract you? Same thing with food or coffee, cigarettes, dvd players ...
  • Incarceration from 20 to life!
  • $500 fine and a 3 months suspension of driving license.
  • Here in Quebec, it is a mere $140.00 and only 3 demerit points to your driver's permit ... I feel they should also automatically add "reckless endangerment" and "criminal negligence" to the docket of charges, and there should be a short but mandatory jail time ...
  • getting ur thubs cut off. so many people die from that. and its really not necesary. just call the person dang. its n1GG@ technology.
  • texting while driving: if you injure someone, they should determine the punishment. if you kill someone, their family should determine the punishment. our laws are too lenient. eye for an eye!
  • make you eat the cellphone a big and die.
  • make them try and text while swimming .
  • If you text while driving your license should be suspended and you should be finded a Hundred Dollars. I have heard too many stories about people dying because of people texting and talking on Cells phones. If it is not an emergency there is no excuse.
  • Instant ban for 2 years and resit your driving test.
  • Loss of Drivers Licence.
  • I dont think we should even be allowed to talk on a cell phone while driving! Let alone text. I think cell phone service should be terminated and not be allowed to get it back for 3 years
  • Destruction of your cars interior and loss of soul. Your daughter will be sacrificed for healthcare reform and your cellphone will be forever covered in monkey turd. -An angry stupid teenager was txting while driving and ran over my friends mom 2 years ago in a parking lot next to a cross walk thing. This must be stopped
  • since its so serious and everyone believes its such a crime, then why dont we go one step further and ban eating, drinking, chewing gum, even sneezing blinking and breathing while driving. along with stereos and passangers because they can be just as distractive if not more.
  • the death penalty
  • A large fine. There was a newscast in my area where they made the news anchors sit in this simulator where they were driving a car and made them text at the same time. They ended up hitting people that were crossing the road and everything. I agree that they should make the person take a road safety course that focuses on texting while driving and part of it should be to put them in that simulator. Maybe then they will realize how truly dangerous it is.
  • $250.00 fine and legally banned from cell phone usage for a year.should be on their liscense as a restriction.....break that probation, double fine and 2 yrs.ban, 3rd time...illegal for them to own one...ever..drive responsibly...and same as drunks, they will never learn at that point....
  • A fine of $2,500 and 6 months jail time.
  • Death; if you use a phone and text while driving you should get what is coming to you I mean it takes almost no skill to do both so if you hit something or get hit by something you deserve it And if your kids are there and they die then it will be an even better punishment because you might live and have to bear it
  • My friend is crippled for life by a guy who ran a red light because he was doing something on the phone and not paying attention and he ended up hitting my friend's car in the front driver's side door. Imagine a Cadillac Escalade hitting a Dodge/Plymouth Neon like that with my friend being in the Neon. I think that they should take the phone from them and ban them from having the phone.
  • Remove the Thumbs...
  • no problemo (;
  • banjo duels after mission impossible openning on K2 with IQ tests blazing.
  • License revocation and being whipped with a wet noodle.
  • Jail time. It's worse than driving while over the limit.
  • take their phone for 3 months and give them a 100 dollar fine
  • the fine in my state is $175
  • I wonder if surgical removal of the thumbs would be a deterrent?
