I'm really nice to them... but I don't really try to have a real conversation with them.

My first response when I read your question was ' like I do everybody else '. But that isn't completely true. I do treat them with respect like I do everybody. I'm polite. I'm friendly. That's how I treat everyone. But....I'm also more patient. I don't dodge a hug. I understand that their personal questions or comments aren't meant to insult and I try to answer them simply and honestly.

I avoid the situation if feasible but if not then just respond as apropriate. same with decrepit old people.

I treat them better than "normal" people.I am extrememly protective when it comes to those with this disorder for personal reasons.

I had a friend who had a child with this syndrome and he was the sweetest boy you could ever imagine. I treat all children with respect and care. And the same with adults.
