  • YES!!! Like all radio waves, wifi signals degrade over distance and therefore the speed and reliability of your connection will go down as you get further away. If you are slow and ahaky, chances are that you are near the limit of the range of your neighbor's wifi. If you had your own router, it would be a lot closer and you would be able to keep a steady signal with more bandwidth than your internet connection has. At a range of ~20 feet, my router is fifty times faster than my DSL; (54.0Mbps vs. 1024Kbps). Plus, it allows me to network all of the PCs we have in the house, so we can swap files (really handy since my latop has no optical drive), share a printer, etcetera.
