Why does my cat chew on cardboard for fun? I have a room filled with cardboard shreadings.

Cats love to chew on paper. I stopped getting newspapers because my cat would make confetti out of the entire thing within minutes. On a brighter note, I don't have to buy a paper shredder.

My kitty Schizo does it all the time! I hate it when we get new boxes, it's like a chew fest for her. And then there is Blaze, he brings toilet paper rolls out of the bathroom to give to me. Silly kitties!

I have 5 cats and 2 of them chew on cardboard and punch holes in paper. And it just so happens that these are the only 2 cats out of the 5 that have dental problems (gingivitis and bad teeth) so I really think they are chewing on cardboard and paper to try and clean their teeth.

yep, my cat uses them as scrathing posts and i encourage it cuz at least shes not doing it to the furniture!

also, try purchasing a nerf ball for yer cat. I bought mine a nerf ball and she will pick it up with one or two claws and rip lil tufts off of it until its an itty bitty circle of kitty bite marks lolol!!! its really cute to find these lil tufts all over the house but she has such a goodtime of it!!

Are your cats young? When mine was about 6 month old kitty, she used to chew cardboard. I think she was teething and her gums were itchy. Then later on I noticed two of her teeth fell out and I panicked because I thought I would have to give this poor teethless kitty liquid diet for the rest of her life. The vet laughed and told me cats lose their teeth like human kids do too. She's 8 now, and no longer chews cardboard.
