  • The answer is yes but NO. The engine in your Suburban is an L31 (Vortec 5700) version of General Motors Gen 1 small-block engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_V8_engine The 4.8L is a version of the LS1 Gen III GM V8 engine... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GM_LS_engine Thus, it is a very different engine. It will fit physically, but the engine mounts, cooling system, engine control computer, and what not are all very different. Plus, it is ILLEGAL (at least in California, I'm not sure about national law) to put an older engine in a newer car. Otherwise, tons of people would drop carburated engines from the 1960s into their rides. If you're looking for more power, you're probably better off going with an upgraded Gen 1 engine similar to this: http://www.crateenginedepot.com/store/HT383E-Performance-Crate-Engine-17800393-P1583C53.aspx Good luck . .
