Do magnets work in deep space? Do they need an atmosphere to be effective? Maybe they work better, I know - most likely a dumb question.

Yeah, they work. But they expect to be paid extra because it's so hard to breathe.

yes magnets work just the same as they do on earth except they don't have to deal with gravity or airflow. if magnets didnt work neither would electricity.

Magnets influence each other through magnetic fields which radiate from their positive and negative poles. These fields do not require a medium (like air) through which to influence other magnets. Therefore magnets will work on earth, in space, and everywhere inbetween. To answer your questions in order: yes; no; and there are no dumb questions.
