Yes, but some people have a natural immunity
-
No. It can't be caught from another person or transferred except through genetics. However, acting more intelligent and acting less foolish/stupid can be learned so a person can maximize his/her potential in intelligent behavour/thinking and actions. In that respect it can be contagious since it can be learned from others, etc.
-
Why not stupidity is.
-
No.
-
Sure, you get smarter hanging around with smart people. When you hang around with dumb people, you just think you're smart.
-
Possibly, stupidity certainly is....;-D... . . . http://www.alternet.org/story/16892

In a certain sense, yes. See Lev Vygotsky's "Zone of Proximal Development." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zone_of_proximal_development The theory is that if you're surrounded with people a little smarter, a little wiser than yourself, you will tend to raise to that level. This zone of proximal development is essential in learning situations.

It depends how you define intelligence. If it's what IQ tests measure, it’s probably not contagious, but can be taught to some extent. That’s why there’s a controversy about intensive coaching for the SATs and other such tests that are based on intelligence in this sense. Personally, I like what John Holt, one of the founders of the home-schooling movement, had to say: “Intelligence is not the measure of how much we know how to do, but of how we behave when we don’t know what to do.” That suggests to me that intelligence is partly a matter of one’s mood in confronting difficulties. It suggests confidence, boldness, openness to new ideas, a willingness to trust one’s natural mental abilities, including one’s imaginative faculties. And mood is definitely contagious.

Well if it is then we need to release a highly contagious and very virile strain on mankind in general.lol.
-
Well... I sure wished it was. I wouldn't need to study that hard then, seeing that I'm mostly surrounded by intelligent peeps lol
-
As Her Majesty, we understand that common sense can be. Intelligence, however, is innate.
-
No,but it can help by being around intelligent others
-
No, otherwise I wouldn't know so many idiots.
-
I wish it was; I'd spread it all over the place!
-
One can only hope so.
-
I feel smarter, having read this thread.
-
Unfortunately, not quite as contagious as the 'common cold' or, if you're not overly SICK of hearing about it, as 'swine flu.'
-
No, but unfortunately, stupidity seems to be.
-
No, I wish it was. Lot's of idiots out there.
-
It shure is with me!
-
Intelligence can be learned. To an extent it's genetic. And to an extent it's memetic. And then every now and then there's one of those people who is smart as all hell and surrounded by idiots.
-
Actually it is the same all over but how much is used is the question!! We are covered by ignorance which needs to be removed first.Very few in the world can move beyond intelligence to universal knowledge!
-
highly and I'm down with a sniffle
-
I hope so, I do want some :) +5
