There is no actual rule saying that women can't play in the MLB. Looking back in baseball history there has been many times were a certain group of people have been not able to play. ( i.e. blacks, hispanics, and asians) So maybe in time and as our society develops we may see women playing. There has been a few times were women have played in college and regional games. But sexist people won't stop and change their opinion for the fact of equality of this sort. There needs to be an ice breaker like Jackie Robinson but is not likely in the near future. So the plain answer to your question is yes women can play MLB if they can get past the biased baseball officals.

Not as of 2007. No woman has the skills required yet.

On March 30, 1934, a woman named Babe Didrikson pitched one inning in an exhibition game for the St. Louis Cardinals against the Boston Red Sox. She gave up 4 hits and 3 runs. Interestingly, the general manager at the time was Branch Rickey. This is the same man who initiated Jackie Robinson into his Dodgers' organization a little over a decade later.
