In the tiniest chair at a narrow table, by a door opening to the cold weather, near the bathrooms, and in earshot of the kitchen. Put those all together, and that is the worst seat in the house. On the other hand, unless I am reading a book or working on writing something, I would enjoy a table next to a really good conversationalist no matter where it was.

At an IHOP in NY, I had to use the restroom. I walked to the back, only to find that the alcove before the bathroom where one would normally find a coatrack or a payphone, had been re-arranged and used for dining space. About 4 tables had been crammed in this spot, and the bathroom door opened outwards, right onto the urinal. Anyone standing there using it was immediately open to the breeze when someone else walked in to the bathroom. I felt bad for the families sitting there. The stench was also nauseating.

Hmmm. If you are by the front door you will probably be in a draft and also people constantly going in and out by your table. If you are by the kitchen you will have waiters constantly bustling in and out with trays, etc. But, on the plus side, by the kitchen there's usually a waiter available. If you are by the front door (considering todays insanity) and there is a robbery you have a better chance of escaping.
