I differentiate between being grown up and being a grownup. I became a grownup in my eyes when my mom passed away a few years ago. My dad died in 1960. When your parents are gone and you have a kid or kids then you are a grownup, at least on the surface. Now, as to whether or not I have grown up? I'm not so sure if I ever will. Inside I'm still 16 and I don't think at this age that will change any time soon! :)

When your parents cut the apron strings and say you can do it alone now. We are sure about it.

I really dunno...we all could've come with instructions upon us, that'd be helpful...my bet would be that we'd look at things differently gradually, that's when we'd realize that we've grown up!!

A good indication that others think you are grown up is when Christmas starts costing you far more than you take in in gifts. :)

You're a grown up when you take responsibility and start doing the right thing instead of just doing what you want. As far as growing up goes, I probably never will. I'm still a kid at heart and can't see that changing. :)

Wow! There are so many different levels of Independence! From crossing the road by yourself to going off to school leaving home getting married and then there's another kind of Independence when you're independent from your husband and everything rests on your own shoulders there's a certain kind of Independence that comes when your parents die, etc.

When the kid comes into the room and instead of wanting to go out and play they say, "I'm just going to go into the other room and crash for a while." When you want the naptime then congratulations your an adult.
