It depends on the State laws the divorce took place in. In Indiana, I pay child support on my "Three monor children"...This means i pay child support until the child turns 18 OR, if they attend higher education (i.e. college, technical school, university), I pay until age 22. If they leave college after the age of 18, my obligation ends. Check your state laws: better yet, if you are paying child support, contact your attorney and ask very specific questions as to how long you are obligated to pay child support.

That may depend on circumstances: Is the child handicapped in any way? Is the child still living with the custodial parent? Is the child going to college and living at home? Is the child getting married at 17 or 18? How "nasty" does the custodial parent want to be? There are more, I'm sure. Point is that laws are different everywhere you go. You need to contact someone in the area (New York State), who knows the local divorce laws, and can give you solid answers. I would also hope that your obligations are delineated in your divorce decree. Read it over again. It may be there.

It is both. Traditionally you only had to pay until 18. However, many states (including New York) now give the court discretion to order support until age 21.

What about if the child is living at home and going to college full-time and is 22 or 23 year of age (in New York)?

I believe you have to pay until the child is 21 unless the child is out of the parent's home and financially supports himself, gets married, joins the military, isn't attending school, and/or is disabled.

I don't know about NY, but around the Tri-state area; WI, MN, Io, it is until they are 18 and or if they are still attending school.

Below is a link to the laws, but remember that all child support is REBUTTABLE, means that you can make a case for paying a different amount, or not at all. http://www.child-support-collections.com/child-support-laws.html http://tinyurl.com/ChildSupportModification2
