Fire was indeed serendipitous. Language isn't so much a discovery as an invention. The taming of electricity in the 18th century was important, but not so serendipitous. The Telephone included a serendipitous discovery. Penicillin was indeed serendipitous. Einstein's insights were well earned, not serendipitous. The Vulcanizaton process for rubber was serendipitous. Several of the first plastics were, too. And of course, Science insists that life itself is serendipitous.
