use a paper doily or wax paper. It will make the cookies standout in the tin cans and make your gift seem more presentable as well as sanitary. I personally don't care if I got some cookies and they have a doily/wax paper on the bottom or not since it is the gift that matters; however, I do know some people who would care and they wouldn't eat the cookies so I would do it - it can't hurt.
