  • Yes got them as pups from the National canine defence league.
  • Because they needed a home. Every dog has been a shelter or abandoned dog. The Poodle/Whippet had been bounced from 10 homes in 10 months, poor thing. The Husky/Lab had been dropped off with his brother in a box on a door step in the middle of winter... and the woman who owned the house just let them sit there until someone else called the Animal Rescue Foundation to get them. The Griffon we had a while ago was one day from being put down at the pound, so as a child, I made my parents pick her. Best choice ever.
  • I didn't choose it. The kind of dog I used to have gave birth to it. That dog came from the local pound for free, it was some sorta lil poodle something else, we called it Mop. This one is the result of a tryst with a neighbor dog which was some sort of Chihuahua Pomeranian thing. Pomehuahua? Chihranian? I don't know what this one is. It is genuine Wonder Dog. I wonder what it is and I REALLY wonder why anybody would have a dog like it.
  • It was love at first sight at the animal shelter. I knew immediately.
  • I didn't choose either of them.....my roommate moved out and left me with his golden retreiver (which I love and adore)........and my boxer picked me out....I was at an animal rescue trying to get a kitten for my sister and the boxer puppy became attached to me....it cried and cried and cried when I left it......I told the people that I would be back after work to check out the rest of the kittens....the people called me at work and told me that I had to pick up "my" dog because it wouldn't quit crying....she hasn't left my side in 2 years
  • Well, a girl I went to H.S. with actually gave me the mom and the litter of Chihuahuas so we sold the pups to good homes once they were old enough - then this past summer she mated with another Chihuahua so we have our 2nd litter
  • He actually chose me. Because I was a volunteer at the shelter, I got to go to an area that was off limits for everyone else. I walked up his run he stuck his face to the cage, stuck out his tongue and kissed my hand. I knew then that he was my dog. Small dogs at that shelter went within hours of being put on the floor so I was very lucky to be able to put in my "order" for him (that sounds weird)..Once he hit the floor, he would have been gone. He's been my best friend and only reason for life ever since.
  • There was one on "Cowboy Bebop"
  • Because he was so darn cute!
  • Intelligence. The Border Collie has the mind of a 4 year old child. Classified as the most intelligent dog on earth. We have to be careful what we say around Mikey. after 10 years, he has learned the english language.
  • My dad raised black rott's when I was growing up,but for some reason bought me a bullmastiff pup when I was 5..I fell in love with the breed. Excellent dogs..but you have to be a dominate type or they will run over you. :)
  • I didn't, my daughter did.
  • One I chose because I wanted a Lab. The other one chose me when she followed me home one afternoon. I gave her some water, then some food, and that settled that, lol.
  • I love rottweilers and he needed saving.
  • Because they are the greatest dogs to ever have walked the face of this earth.
  • these two guys kinda choose us, one from the pound, and the other from abandoned apt. someone moved out of. We love them to pieces, and of course they rule the house.....
  • My family's dog was the quietest puppy of the litter and my mother simply adores weinie dogs. Ours is a wonderful contribution to the family and still to this day is spoiled. We named him Boo b/c as a puppy he would play Peek-a-boo with a towel :)
  • because labs are suppose to be mild tempered
  • I chose a Boxer because of their loveable natures. They are adorable, funny faced and loyal and make great watch dogs. Ripley is not really a dog though, he is like Pinnochio, or a dog-like person.
  • I picked her up on the banks of the Brazos River on Christmas Eve. Her brother had already frozen to death and I couldn't just leave her there
  • I love big dogs, love sitting side by side with them and enjoy a working dog, one that can do many outdoor activities, like hiking, backpacking, draft work, swimming, and loves the snow. And temperament is really important as well. That is why we fell in love with Newfoundlands many years ago and have gotten just that breed for about 30 years. They are very kind, love spending time with people, can lie by your side or be high energy as well. They are also very intuitive, if I can call it. They seem to have a 6th sense about things, maybe that is why they are so terrific at water rescue. They seem to know when people are in trouble.
  • I didn't choose him. He chose me!
  • we got our male from the animal shelter or they were going to put him down. we got our female from some people in oklahoma. now we have our 2 beautiful akitas and 9 little puppies to go with it.
  • When I had dogs a long time ago... I had a Dane, a pincher, a golden retreiver and a mixed shepard. I had them and I love them because I absolutely love and adore big huge working class animals. But that was when I was younger and these were more family pets so I didn't have a choice really. In my own life. I am a total cat person as dogs, at least to me, are loud, obnoxious, rude intrusive and require a lot of maintence. I love OTHER peoples dogs... but would never have another one of my own Cats just are, and they dont really give a crap. Just like me!
  • we own 2 pitbulls because my husband loves the look and the temperament of the breed. they are very kind and loving dogs, but strangers are intimidated by them which makes them excellent guard dogs. we also own a mixed terrier we adopted from the animal shelter. and we own a boston terrier, again, we love the breed. they are high energy and cheerful and a lot of fun.
  • she is smart, loyal, and purebread the runt of the litter i love her:)
  • Because he was free. I wouldn't pay for a pet. I think the whole pet industry is messed up. Consumer demand equals more unrestricted breeding which in turn equals more unwanted pets. I prefer to take one that noone wants.
  • we had a tea cup poodle when i was growing up - no shedding but we had her groomed - very very good watch dog - a one person dog
  • Because they are people dogs, always by your side. Known as the clown in the dog world. Their beautiful. I have three doberman pinchers.
  • When I am in a pet shop, I dont pick the happy playful dog, regardless of how cute it may be. I tend to pick the dog in the corner, the sad dog that needs a fair chance at life. I know the happy pup will find an owner. So thats how I usually approach it.
  • I choose my dogs due to their keen hunting abilities. German Shorthair retreiver is the perfect hunting dog for me. I love hunting quail and dove. The first one I purchased was there for my first son when he was born and they were inseperable.
  • I didn't chose her, she chose me.... sorry to blatantly steal an answer there but it's true. She was the quiet, depressed looking one at the animal shelter, and I've always loved Staffordshire Bull Terriers anyway. We walked a few of the dogs there, and I don't think I have ever seen a living creature look so happy as she did, running through the grass in the parks. Some of the others seemed pretty indifferent to the process, jaded if you will. So I picked the one who seemed to like us most.
  • cuz i thought that the Great Dane i saw was cute, so guess what?? i bought him... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
  • My dog came to me from my sis to keep the pup company I wanted (Just for a while). That dog turned out to be a real pain. (Cute little dog) after several months I finally gave her to someone that said, "If you want to get rid of that one I will take her." Marky has been with me for five years now. He knows I am his human and he lets me know he is my dog.
  • My earlier Golden retriever died and this pup came to us through an advertisement in the classifieds. They wanted to give away pups to good families who are dog lovers. That's how we got an English Pointer!
  • :) I didn't choose him he chose me :)
  • she was just a baby and the people who owned her are horrible they were taken away from there parents to soon left outside in a pen so they could freeze it was just horrible i also knew she loved me the moment i looked at her
  • she chose me...... :)
  • We have a german shepard and a border collie lab cross. My 3 favourite breeds for their energy, loyalty and intellegance :)
  • Shetland Sheepdogs are excellent companion dogs, known for their intelligence, loyalty, and adaptability.
  • My bairn Heidi is a 3 year old whippet/some kind of terrier cross. Her mum got out 1 day and came back pregnant. When my step-dad in law came back with a photo of 2 dogs my sister in law and i both liked the look of Heidis young bro Diesel, but now i wouldnt swop her 4 anything. She gets spoiled rotten and is my baby. Her old owners before me moved in2 a high rise and got full time jobs so reluctantly had to give them away.So altho she wasnt chosen i would never swop her for an expensive designer dog.She is very intelligant, looks a bit like a fox.Heidi is my 1st dog.Im 33 next month and didnt realise how a dog can change your life.Mel.Glasgow.
  • We got our dog from freecycle. yeah that's right. Our dog was free.
  • Major basically adopted me when I was at the shelter looking. He was bound and determined he was going home with me. Ironically when I first saw him at the shelter there was no way I was interested but on one of my return visits I was talked into "just taking him for a walk". As they say, the rest is history. He is an American Bulldog.
  • Cuz it fits my lifestyle and personality.
  • A black lab and a yellow lab because we are die hard Steelers fans!
  • Several Rottweilers & Siberians...All were Rescues. Rotties are the best!
  • I chose Mikey, our Border Collie. Border Collies are the most intelligent dogs out there. And, Mikey lives up to that reputation. If Border Collies are not the most intelligent dog on the planet, then why are they consistently chosen as No. 1 in dog shows, dog trials, and numerous tv commercials? The average IQ of a Border Collie is comparable to that of a five year old human. Mikey never ceases to amaze us with his intelligence.
  • I love Mutts! I prefer a male dog, as I find them to be more obedient, but I have a female... I was duped... I walk into this pet store, checking the price of cat food. There's a cage full of puppies. 4 hyperactive, jumping beans, bouncing all over the 1 little pup, sleeping on the floor of the pen. That was the most mellow, but female. I decided to take her anyway...she slept the rest of the day. She was such a cute little thing.... The next day, Holy Hell Dog!!! I think the owners drugged her to get rid of her! She was a BAD, BAD dog. I didn't really even start liking her until she was about 6 years old. The only reason I didn't get rid of her before that was because my daughter loved her so much. She's alright now....
  • wel the first one i have is a boxer i got it cause one of my husband puppy passed aways and he was very upset. so i found him a boxer who is very good and dont know what we would do with out.. my two chihuahua pick me and my husband out of a bunch people. one was on his back legs beggin please take me home.. the other one sleeps al the time so i figure he would be my type of dog..lol I dont know what we would do wit out them now
  • My four Dobies are EXCELLENT protectors and my two little ones are ankle-biters and lap dogs!
  • I thought Springer Spaniels were beautiful, I bought the first one and now the two others have been rescues.
