  • If you mean that it is derived from those letters, then that is false. It is derived from "new things". The french use the word "nouvelles", which means exactly the same but has no compass derivation. Generally speaking, the use of acronyms in English did not occur before WW1 in military circles and WW2 in general usage. Any derivation which uses acronyms before these dates is probably bogus. And the word news is far, far older then WW1.
