What is the difference between a biomass pyramid and an energy pyramid?

Nothing really. A biomass pyramid shows the abundance of organisms at each trophic level. An energy pyramid shows how energy travels up through the different trophic levels. It would be like looking at the same pyramid but for different reasons.

Biomass shows us the total dry weight of the organisms in the trophic level.. example: 100,000 kg of plants (and by this we don't mean that one plant weighs 100,000 kg we mean that the total no. of plants that are eaten by grasshoppers weigh 100,000 kg )are eaten by 10,000 grasshoppers which are eaten by 100 kg birds which area eaten by a 3 kg snake.. Now on the other hand.. an energy pyramid shows us the energy flow in an enviroment, producers will always have the most energy followed by first degree consumers ( herbivores ) and then secondary consumers ( carnivores )....
