  • When I was young, my parents smoked. It was their influence that planted the idea, their cigarette's that I stole for my first experiments, and their wisdom that stopped me. When I was "caught" because I left evidence. My dad came to my room with a chapter of a book by a famous athlete I was reading open to the chapter on smoking. He laid it on my bed and calmly said, "Your mother and I know you have been trying smoking. We just want you to know that you don't have to sneak around up here and risk starting a fire. Any time you want a cigarette, you can come down and smoke one with us." That cured me. By the way, Dad quit ten years before he died of cancer and Mom hasn't smoked for over 40 years.
