  • Put up your half of the fence....when his falls down then let him deal with it...;)
  • Learn the reality: Your neighbor is a little Turk instead of its advanced age!
  • Just let it fall down then buy a big dog :)
  • Go to your local council/county/sherrif/housing committee and inquire. They'll probably tell you that it's up to residents to decide on these things. If that's the case ask them for a free mediation session between you and the neighbour, as most councils are forced in these situations to try and solve problems out of court.
  • Being in the same shape as your neighbor, I would ask for a little understanding. I just went thru this with 2 of the 3 neighbors I share fences with. The 1st neighbor told me to pay whenever I could, however much. The 2nd neighbor asked me to go halves on an 8 foot tall, wooden, "slat-over-gap", stained, fancy fence. I told her I would pay half of a "regular" 6 foot wooden fence, but it would HAVE TO be on installments. She went ahead and put the "very expensive" fence in, and agreed to let me pay out the cheaper price. I would ask that you tell your neighbor to just pay some whenever they can. You may get nothing, or you could be pleasantly surprised!
  • Suggestion: Get a price for the fence and offer to allow the neighbor to make monthly installments over a year or two for half the cost (have him sign a promissory note for the loan).
