  • I was going to answer that having no money helps, but with credit cards I'm not sure even that is a valid answer. Gotta love the world!
  • so far i have not been able to.. though i have been trying real hard
  • Fear. I have a great fear of bouncing checks, having utilities shut off because I spent too much on needless stuff, having creditors call to let me know I'm being sued. My credit rating is among the most valuable "things" I have...I only commit myself to that which I can afford..I have always been that way. No "toy" or "newest gadget" or "stylish clothes" or "vacations" or whatever can make up for loss of sleep, embarrassment of being labeled a "deadbeat". So I've never had problem in that regard..as I said, fear works wonders! :)
  • I always think of the nice things that I could do with my money. My love for travelling is the most compelling reason for me to save money.
  • Budget. When the money is gone that you have budgeted for that catagory, then it's gone. Dave Ramsey is a great place to start.
  • Actually, my mother and I were speaking this morning. We noticed the problem we always had was the overdrawn fees. We kept spending over what we already had. So we both decided to stop using our debit/credit cards and only taking out a controlled amount of cash. When I mean controlled I mean only used for what is needed, food, gas, etc. and keeping the rest in the account untouched. So lets say I have $500 I am only going to cash out 10% for myself, and leave the rest for bills and what not. I hope this makes sense.
  • I let my wife hold my extra money after i pay the bills.
  • I know that I cannot afford much so I dont even get out the debit card. There is no money to be debited LOL and I know this in the back of my mind and that thought stops me from swiping it. ;)
  • When I run out of money, I stop spending. When I get a paycheck, I pay the bills and then start spending again:) I've started a savings account, though that gets an automatic deposit each month that I don't look at and pretend doesn't exist...I'll need money when my kids get to college.
  • Working on a strictly cash basis helps with that bad habit. If you don't have it, you can't spend it.
