  • When I have this problem, I sew more baste stitches and put them closer together. I think pin basting draws the fabric up too much, and it won't smooth out properly after stitching.
  • To keep things flatter pin baste with small 1" pins I think they are called #2s and do it about 2" apart. That's the best way to keep something flat. And when you do your basting stretch the bottom fabric tight flat either with tape on a surface or with T-pins in a rug. Then lay the batting down and lay the top down carefully.
