  • I have no answer for that. To me it doesn't make sense, yet there are so many people like that. I guess it's something inside them that is unfulfilled.
  • you can have a lot of material possessions and still be really empty inside. we realize that no matter what we do, we are fragile creatures... we can get sick, suffer an accident and then be dead. even if you have love one day, it can be gone the next. having a relationship with God and knowing about him and his plans for the future makes me very optimistic. Then a certain one of the crowd said to him: “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.” 14 He said to him: “Man, who appointed me judge or apportioner over YOU persons?” 15 Then he said to them: “Keep YOUR eyes open and guard against every sort of covetousness, because even when a person has an abundance his life does not result from the things he possesses.” 16 With that he spoke an illustration to them, saying: “The land of a certain rich man produced well. 17 Consequently he began reasoning within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, now that I have nowhere to gather my crops?’ 18 So he said, ‘I will do this: I will tear down my storehouses and build bigger ones, and there I will gather all my grain and all my good things; 19 and I will say to my soul: “Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, enjoy yourself.”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘Unreasonable one, this night they are demanding your soul from you. Who, then, is to have the things you stored up?’ 21 So it goes with the man that lays up treasure for himself but is not rich toward God.” Luke 12: 12-21 Here is an article that may give you some insight http://www.watchtower.org/e/20040108/article_02.htm
  • Depression is caused by an imbalance in the hormones. It has nothing to do with material possessions. There are probably even more people who do not have material possessions that suffer depression, but they have no way of telling anyone.
  • It is called the Human Condition. We are all humans after all. We have an inate need to suffer, to worry, and to search for ourselves. No amount of money or material possesions can eleviate this. You could try reading a novel by Andre Malraux La Condition Humaine, a very good analysis of this.
  • "Having everything in life" really isnt having EVERYthing is it? No one really has everything in life. I've learned that the prettiest/smartest/most successful people have problems like everyone else. Material posessions are fleeting and superficial.... depression has nothing to do with anything outside your own head. Money can help you obtain things but obtain not true happiness. You have to reach inside yourself, change your mentality. Try to find a healthy way to fill the void that needs to be filled.
  • A kid who lives in Africa and has to walk 20 miles every day for water, a kid who has never been told of the Western world, would be happy. Simply because he doesn't know any better. A kid who has been forcibly addicted to cocaine so as he comes to 'work' every day to learn how to kill people, is probably happy, simply because he doesn't know any different. A kid who has grown up with everything they could ever want doesn't know any different. When that stops, or they notice that any love they ever felt was because of a material possession, they get depressed - simply because they previously knew a different life. You can only really compare your life to YOUR life. You can't say, 'I should be happy, at least I am not a kid in Africa', when the kid in Africa is probably happier than the person denying themselves depression out of guilt. That person doesn't know what it is like to BE a kid in Africa, they only know what it is like to be them. It's not comparable. Which means it is possible for someone to have 'everything' from another individuals point of view, and accept that they have more than others, yet still be unhappy at times. You can't BE happy without knowing what it is to be unhappy. If someone who had everything was never unhappy, they'd never be happy either.
  • to you they have everything, for them its different!!
  • because depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and sometimes it has nothing to do with the environment that surrounds you i mean that person can have a lot of money and people who care and love him/her but if she/he has an imbalance none of that matters.
  • I have learned in my Life that without HOPE.. we can experience many unhappy and or negative feelings.. visit a Medical Doctor make sure there are no underlying Health Issues..Hope can come to us in many way's.. making daily Plans... Physical Exercise can be a very Positive boost, setting Goals for ourselves.. I found that I didnt know where to start when I was depressed and wondering why? talk with friends,Talk with Family members you Trust, talk with those you trust and have your best Interest at Heart !! sometimes there is never an easy answer or easy solution.. but making the Conscious effort to start right now.. Today !! talking with someone.. is a great Step in the Right Direction..
  • As everyone else has already said, there are times when depression isn't just a week of feeling bad, it can be a life long condition for whatever reason. As anyone who has been chronically depressed would know, all the money in the world wouldn't even make you a little happier, it goes beyond what you're able to feel and controls all of you. As for an example how someone can have everything and be depressed, look at Kurt Cobain. He was quoted many times saying that he didn't like being famous and he didn't like the glam of being a public icon. He had lots of money but he struggled in personal relationships, which is enough to make anyone depressed. It just goes to show that there are alot of ways to end up at the same place and in the end it doesn't matter how you get there. I was in rehab once because of my depression and I had a chance to talk to a lot of other people, and it was amazing hearing everyone tell their stories of, in essence, why their life sucked. Every single person that spoke made me cringe, because I felt fortunate not to have that situation. The crazy thing was though that everyone else was doing that too; everyone's life seemed better after listening to everyone else. It really made it clear to me that situations in life can end up having very little to do with your mental state when it's a chronic illness.
  • People that never had depression can not understand how debilitating it can be..Nothing can really make a different, money, love, etc....Chemicals sometimes help. You have to ususally need to try more than one and it takes 6 weeks to kick in...Please go to a Dr. explain how you feel, there is always help. Always hope. Don't try to kick it off yourself, it doesn't work..People have to ask for help sometimes. Life is worth it.
  • Happy on the outside............ Sad on the inside.
  • Everything doesn't make you happy.
  • Nothing is as it seems...
  • Because they have everything in life, and that still couldn't make them happy. Having everything can affect a person in other ways, issues are created, like in the same way a person who doesn't have much would be depressed, but the situation is different.
  • Material things have nothing to do with a persons emotions or chemicals. Money and things are not everything in life :)
  • If it's not a chemical imbalance then that someone may not be feeling the love they need from those around them.
