  • Yes. I smoke about a pack and a half a day. I've smoked for the past 27 years. I wish I could find a sure-fire way to quit. I know it's detrimental to my health, but I enjoy it so much.
  • No, never have and never will.
  • No. Quit in 1998 (2 1/2 packs a day). Edit: Cold turkey. Had several teeth pulled, Doc said no smoking for 12 hours. I figured if I got through the first 12, I could do it. I did. Took my cigarette money and bought a new boat. And to answer Auntie Em about the boat name, it is called "De Toy". this is a play on my last name of "De Tar". My boat payment was actually $30 per month LESS than my cigarettes! Edit: Damn! I got rated down for quitting smoking! Must have been a cigarette manufacturer's union employee.
  • Yukkyyyy....Nooo...& I hope I will never!
  • Used too.. quit through the help of chupa-chups.. and realizing that hormones and cigg's make your skin break out.. i chose looking clean over a fix of nicotine.. it wasn't a hard choice.. the ladies like clear skin~
  • Yes, I am addicted to nicotine.
  • No I do not. I tried it in high school though, trying to pose like the Marlboro man. It is amazing what peer pressure will do. I saw cigerettes end my Dad's life early. None of my kids smoke. I suppose that I am an outspoken anti-smoking "nazi" now.
  • I don't know I've never checked. Serious answer: I smoked heavily between the ages of fifteen and twenty three, at my heaviest I was getting through 40 a day (although I did have bad insomnia at the time) I gave up when I woke up to how much it was costing me- with suprisingly little difficulty.
  • Nope. I've never had a reason to. I tried it once when I was 14, and I couldn't inhale it properly or something. The person I was with said I wasn't doing it correctly. After that, I never bothered. I didn't see why I would keep trying to learn to smoke just so I could become addicted to something that would damage my health. I can't say I'll never ever smoke (never say never!), but I seriously doubt I will.
  • Yes, I do, I have tried to quit, and will keep trying, It is sad, as I always find my way back to them, I would really like to see my daughter have childen and to watch them grow, I have tried every thing to quit. They say if you want to you can, why can't I?
  • I smoked from age 14 to age 21, when I quit because of appointment to the fire department. Started again at age 23 and quit at age 28 along with my ex-wife when we got married. Started again 10 years later when my marriage fell apart, as if I had never even stopped. Quit again when my wife got pregnant with my son. Again when she got pregnant with my daughter. Quit again on June 16, 2006. Currently a non-smoker, and hope to stay that way. You ARE talking about cigarettes...right?
  • Nah. The CIGARETTE smokes. I'm just the sucker.
  • A recent conquest of mine.
  • Nah! Why pay when I have so many passive smokers around me to do it anyway. That satisfys my nicotine addiction quite enough!
  • No, I usually just just burn down convient stores then inhale, but I would never put one of those death sticks in my mouth....
  • every one smokes, their are so much polution that weather you smoke a cigarette or not we all have infected lungs.
  • I smoked from age 16 to about 31, quit for 11 years and started back at a New Years Eve party when I got really stupid. Smoked until last year at this time, age 52 and quit cold turkey. Now I am on oxygen 24/7 with a lung disease. My wife stopped smoking at age 32, she died with lung cancer at 39. Hope you all find the will power to quit.
  • Absolutely not. I get angry whenever anyone lights up. I can't see why they would voluntarily cut their own lives short. People say they enjoy it, but I just don't see how it can be enjoyable. Why would someone enjoy increasing their chances of cancer and heart disease. Why would someone enjoy smoking around pregnant women, and causing birth defects. Why would someone enjoy something that makes you cough up crap on a regular basis. Something that kills your sense of smell and taste. Something that will kill you at an early age and leave your family devastated. Something that, even aside from the death factor, stinks. It stains your teeth, your skin, your clothes, your house, your car, everything. It makes you, your home, your breath, and everything you touch smell horrible. It costs you thousands of dollars a year. Nothing like paying for a life filled with disease, the stench of smoke, and an early death. It makes you look like an idiot.
  • YUCK!!! Nope, tried it once and i hated it, same for alcohol. I maybe a teenager but it doesnt neccarily mean im one thats stupid (drinks, wrecks, smoking etc.) Im smart enough to know what not to do and strong enough to not give in to peer pressure.
  • no i do not smoke alhamdullah
  • Not now. I smoked when younger, and like several of the posters I quit several times. I made up my mind, when I asked my present wife to marry me, that it was time for me to stop. I agreed with her that My last cigarette would be smoked the day she arrived in this country. Now, I wouldn't expect people who have never smoked to fully understand, but I knew that the anxiety of waiting for her would make me want to smoke, which was why I decided it would be that day and not the day before. I also wanted it to be a special and significant day that I could easily remember. I haven't touched one, nor felt the need to touch one, since. I don't feel angry about those who smoke, and I wouldn't preach to them like some holier-than-thou born-again non-smoker. Most of us are well aware of the damage caused by cigarettes and some people smoke despite this awareness. If someone wants help to quit I will lend what support I can, but it is their life and they make their own choices.
  • Nah. What's the point in it? I'd rather spend my money on more useful things, like skates with no wheels or rap albums. Cigarettes, if you haven't caught it already, are less useful than useless. I am of the opinion that smoking is one of the most inconsiderate habits out there. Not only does it affect and harm you, but it affects and harms everyone around you and downwind of you. (No offense intended. Just stating why I won't do it.) I'm also LDS (Mormon), if you haven't noticed that already, either. No ciggies, tabacky, booze, java, or leaf soup for me!
  • thanks for the reminder... im lighting one in this moment...
  • no and i hope if i ever do my family and friends will help me to stop
  • Nope...used to...quit ten years ago.
  • no i like to live to be old and living with nothing but cats.
  • Do you smoke? why do you ask?
  • yes i am thirteen and i smoke cigars
  • No! Never have and never will.
  • Not unless I sleep too close to the fire.
  • I don't fully consider myself a smoker. If I'm going to a party, I usually buy a pack because for some reason when I have alcohol in me, it becomes second nature. Just recently I've been smoking a pack in maybe 2 weeks, usually just one late at night. I tend to think clearly during it, just like when I'm in the shower (lol). I don't smoke around people who don't, but I also don't find it to be a horribly unattractive habit. Maybe inconvenient.
  • I haven't already, and I don't plan to in my life-time. Edit- To see why read on. Money- There is absolutely no reason to burn up money that could be used on something useful. Health- I don't think this even needs to be explained. It is detrimental to your health, and does not one good thing for you. I don't know why you would want to end up like this: http://www.tobaccofacts.org/images/grosspostcard.jpg Now that just don't make sense! Effects- It also affects non-smokers in a way that I wouldn't wanted to be affected. Since I do not smoke, the least smokers can do is not smoke around me.
  • no. there are cooler ways to die.
  • Yeah... but I'm not as bad as before... used to smoke almost 2 packs a day... now I smoke 1 or 2 a day.. sometimes I don't even have one. Mostly, I like lighting up but don't smoke much of it. Soon, I'll be completely smoke free... Wish me luck!
  • Yes and I regret it every day. I have been addicted to it for many years and I actually posted a question on Answerbag a few days back requesting suggestions to break my habit. I have quit many times (from cold-turkey to the patch etc...) but as always I find myself smoking again. It is, for me, a very hard habit to break but I keep trying. Many habits have come and gone in my life but smoking is the only one that has stayed. I am a prime example of the addictive nature of nicotine and why others should never start smoking.
  • I "smoked" a few cigarettes in high school, as props mostly, until the "cool kids" told me I wasn't doing it right. Lol. I am too stupid to even smoke? Stanley Kowalski can smoke! Anyway, since I wasn't doing it right, I figured why start. My father died of Leukemia when I was 10. "Rev. Blake" was an across the board recreational smoker, smoking cigarettes, cigars, and he had a massive pipe collection. Often I fantasize that if there were one opportunity to go back in time, I would try to convince him to stop so that we could have more time with him. He was an extraordinary man. Happier story: my great-grandma stopped smoking when she was 84! I was in college at the time and asked her, how did you do it grams? She was an uneducated farm girl from Kentucky. She told me that her doctor told her at her check-up it wasn't healthy for her ( ! ) I was like...you mean to tell me if I had told you that years ago...? She looked at me and said: "you're not a DOCTOR."
  • There aren't any benefits to smoking so I never did smoke. I never will either.
  • Only if you set me on fire, but then again if you ask my husband he might say I am red hot. If that spontaneous combustion theory is correct... maybe I might smoke before bursting into flames. http://www.watchtower.org/e/20000322/article_01.htm If you smoke and want some helpful suggestions on how to quit, click on the above link for a series of articles.
  • thankfully, no I don't and never have. I hopefully never will, but there's always the chance.
  • I can't. I have terrible allergies and asthma. It would kill me quicker than most. I would only last as long as it takes to suffocate after my lungs essentially swell shut. I'd really be screwed if I was born several decades earlier. I can't imagine a time when people could smoke anywhere. I even have to hold my breath to walk through the cloud outside of buildings. It was so wonderful when I moved to an area that banned smoking in restaraunts.
  • If I had the young teenage choice to do over, I would have skipped. But alas, time travel mocks me and I am a cigarette addict with the fake "it won't happen to me attitude" against the warnings... but only to make myself feel better. And like addicts of anything else, I know it is bad, but actually enjoy them and continue to do so. I do however hate the feeling of standing outside of work - rain, sleet, snow, or hail to do so. I hate that they are a major inconvenience. They anger me when I think about how much they run my life and take my cash.... but like the slave I am, I just keep lighting them up. They certainly do make for a delicious dessert. **It is hard to admit your stupid
  • Im 13 and I'm not planing to smoke, i believe its a waste of time,MONEY and if i know im going to become addicted and probly get really sick or DIE, im just not going to !
  • I never have smoked and I definately never will. There's no way I am going to put my life at risk by doing that. Besides, I want to live to a ripe old age...Or something close.
  • No I never have even though my mum dad and older brother and sister all did as I grew up My sister was taken into hospital this week unable to breathe and has been told to stop. she has always resisted this advice from me in the past but said this was a big wake up call and frightened her, so she is going to REALLY try fingers crossed 4 her please guys
  • No - have you ever tried kissing someone who smokes? That alone keeps me away from cigarettes - I don't want to smell bad AND it'll most likely give you emphysema and worst of all cancer : (
  • Only on tuesday.
  • actually, i choose not to smoke. to me people that smoke choose to blind themseleves with ignorance. they are ignorant because, they choose not to realize the harmful effects that smoking has on the people who use them.
  • why do you want to now?????????
  • Nope, I haven't smoked and I don't plan to. I don't see how someone can enjoy it, it looks painful. But I will never know, and I hope those who do smoke will be able to quit when they wish too.
  • Not now. Quit 22 years ago cold turkey. Wasn't that hard, and I had smoked for 18 years. I haven't missed it since then, and now I am actully bothered by smelling smoke or the smell of stale smoke on clothes or in a room.
  • I smoked for 10 years and I just quit last year. I haven't had a cigarette in 368 days. However, I still chew 2 pieces of nicotine gum a day, but I'm trying to stop that too. :p 12-09 Edit to add: I haven't had any nicotine gum for 10 days. The weird thing is, I don't miss it. Being nicotine free rocks! Yaay for me!
  • yep i do im not saying its good for me but i do and have done for awile now. im cutting down though..... kinda
  • i smoke for a week back when i was 15 ..i never liked it and havent smoked ever since.

  • i am a non smoker. i saw what it did to my grandmother and my mother so i dont think i will ever do it. my grandmother was so bad off that she has lung problems for the rest of her life. she would rather smoke than eat so she was anerexic. my mom is the same way right now but without the lung problems. thankfully my grams found the courage to quit but my mom still does to take care of her stress. so after seeing all this i will never pick up a cigarett.

  • i have never smoked.
  • Non-smoker and Never have smoked.
  • Yes.I grew up in an era when smoking was extremely popular, around the time of WW II. When I was a teenager, everyone smoked. They smoked in restaurants, in offices, in college classes, hospital rooms, walking down the street, in movie theaters, lecture halls -- all kinds of public places. The media touted cigarette ads. I still remember some of the commercials: "I'd walk a mile for a mild, mild Camel." "Lucky Strike, 'T' for taste and 'T' for throat", "Winston tastes good like a cigarette should." et al. Nobody ever objected, and no one ever died from cigarettes, that I ever heard of at that particular time. Them were the good old days, when the government didn't stick their nose in everyone's business. I visit a nursing home as a volunteer, and the residents there are allowed to smoke. Some of them are way past 100 The oldest resident is 107. She doesn't use a wheelchair and helps care for people 20 years her junior. Her mind is sharp, and she helps out part time in the gift shop. She smokes a pack of Winstons daily.
  • Nope, I have never smoken and I shall never do it.
  • No, but I, personally, do not look down at those who do. I'm even allergic to certain kinds of smokes. But that doesn't make me be pigheaded about it. It's their own choice and everybody else needs to get over it. If they want to use that method to destroy their body, let them do it. I'd rather die of something at a young age then die from nothing at an old age. And if you really do have that serious of a problem with it, this world is big enough...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!
  • No, it's really really disgusting, i've seen what its doing to my dad, and how f****d his lungs are, for something that is really not that great. It inflicts on everyone around you, and whilst people say it 'calms them down' it's only becasue they get so stressed by not having one - I don't get why people would want to start in the first place.
  • NO., I tried it when I was 8 years old.
  • Yeah. I had my first cigarette in 8th grade, but didn't like it and tried it again in college and have gradually moved to menthol cigarettes. I have been smoking for almost 2 years, but only smoke about a pack a week...I know...why even bother? :)
  • no and happy to know it
  • YES I smoked around 2 packs a day well i did until the day i found out i was pregnant, it was the best motivation i could have ever asked for to quit...COLD TURKEY.
  • Yes I do, but I have slowed down alot. and soon I will be smoke free .. I hope.
  • No. I would never smoke.
