Practicing is the only thing that will help. Plan a routine for yourself, run a mile every day and time yourself. Push yourself a little more each day and you will reach your goal in no time! Just stick to the plan! Also, if you prefer to run on grass or on road, plan a suitable route that will help achieve your best time. And wear running shoes, they don't actually help shorten your time like that, but will make your step feel lighter!

Running a mile is 25% physical and 75% mental. Beef up on your mental stamina and the physical part will follow. (At the age of 10, I used to run a mile in under 7:30 seconds)
