To play any instrument. One of my colleagues shared how he had a student who spoke a foreign language and wanted to take music lessons. They were able to communicate through sound and gestures and she learned to play beautifully. (Funny thing was, he later found out she spoke english!)

When you examine the pieces that make up the communication process; Words, Body Language and Tone, Words only account for 10% of the overall pie. Which would suggest you could in fact accomplish a great deal. For example: 1. You could use flash cards 2. You could play charades 3. You could study geography by baking a cake and decorating it with different items to represent the topigraphical areas-- the class could then eat it -- using other senses (as suggested by others) 4. You could listen to an audio (I'm making an assumption that only the facilitator is not speaking or using words) 5. Watch a video 6. Read (if words are totally disallowed, it could be pictures) and act out a play in history 7. You could teach emotions with music 8. You could use paints to demonstrate a point or emotion Words sometimes limit us in that the use of them limit our imagination, when in fact they make up such a small piece of the communication process. Although they represent such a small piece, they can hurt deeply because we don't explore different ways to say and do things.

I have never tried to teach anything without using words but actually, when we are explaining something and use various mimic gestures or our body language, it's possible to make the children understand what we want to explain. So in case we use TPR (Total Physical Response) simply without saying a word, we can succeed.

A simple act of kindness. I find that being on the receiving end makes me want to spread the goodness so when I do something for someone else I feel that I am reminding them that they can do those things for others and "pass it on" if you will.
