  • Yes....would I be scared?...yes
  • If I believed in the war, if i believed the war was necessary to prevent invasion by a foreign force or to fight a guerilla war against an occupying force then absolutely. If I did not believe in the war, that it was unjust, and served no purpose in defending my own country, then no. In both cases I would be very scared.
  • I can't imagine I'd be much use to be honest- I'd probably be doing them a favour by not going. I suppose the only real answer to this is that it depends whether I believed in the cause the war was fought in aid of.
  • --yep---
  • Yep. If we ever have another world war, I'll do my bit. My country may not be perfect, but it's still my country
  • Absolutely no. I think i might engage myself in a war, some sort of guerilla, or resistance stuff if necesary. But i cannot imagine myself following the orders of an army to which i never asked anything.
  • Speaking from actual experience I could not be recruited to fight in the Vietnam war but when I was drafted at the age of 22 had to go. I did not ever feel my country was at any risk from the North Vietnamese but I was drafted so I went. I can't say I was ever proud of it. War degrades all who take part in it. Those who think otherwise need to watch "All Quiet On The Western Front" again and pay attention this time. Or the more recent "Hamburger Hill". That's what war really is like. Just killing and trying not to get killed yourself. And when you come back all the good jobs are taken by those who stayed home.
  • In the past I would have said yes. It would have been an honor to lay down my life for this great country and her ideals. Today, I would do so only if the sons and daughters of US representatives, senators, judges and others of influence (who can buy deferments) fought right along side of me.
  • Probably not, but it depends on the details. I think if you have to take people out of the general population and force them to fight in a war, there's at least a %80 chance that said war is an unecessary one. I refuse to go to war because I firmly believe that in the vast majority of plausible circumstances, the only time war is absolutely necessary to defend ones life, home, family and freedom, is when the war comes to *You*. There are times when war is waged for ethical reasons, under the pretense of combating some injustice perpetrated by a foreign power over it's citizens, and those wars usually don't come home to you, but even considering that, there are better ways to end cruelty and violence than with more cruelty and violence.
  • I sure would but would be scared out of my mind.
  • unfortunately yes...my principle of never fighting in a war i dont believe in would give way to my principle of never letting somebody else go in my stead
  • Yes I would.
  • I would be there today if asked to serve. As much as I am against the war in Iraq, I am still very proud of my country and would serve it any time asked. (although I'd be scared sh**less!)
  • I am a very proud and patriotic American so if the military wanted me I would go. It is highly doubtful though. I have extremely poor eyesight which is non correctable through glasses or surgery and I am almost 46 years old so highly doubtful they would call me.
  • Since my father was involved in the Korean War and my uncle in World War II, yes. I wouldn't fear it. I would hope to get proper training first.
  • Maybe, but then I'd probably have some kind of nervous breakdown. I can't imagine surviving the military or prison. Also, to me people are people, no matter what side of an imaginary line they live on...so I'd have real problems with shooting them for what I perceive as no real reason.
  • You're joking , you can die and i'd miss my football.
  • I would be willing to fight...for a cause in which I both believed in and for hwich I didn't think there was another solution. I could not in good conscience fight and kill for something for which I would not be willing to lay down my life or the lives of loved ones. I think warring is the human race's natural state, but I don't htink it's our ideal state.

  • Yes I would go. I could walk down the road and get hit by a bus, or it could be a bomb or a bullet of my enemies. Either way, I would honor the call of my countries needs. Besides, I would get to see the bastards that are willing to hide behind woman and children as sheilds, up close.
  • No indeed.
  • I would go because I was called upon to serve my country. But, I don't think I would do them very much good. I am pretty clumsy and I'd probably drop my gun causeing it go off and randomly shooting someone perhaps myself. It could happen!
  • Even if it was for a just cause, i wouldn't have the balls to do it. Unless the bad guys tried to come up in my crib and kill me, but not if they are invading U.S airspace or something.
  • I volunteered before I was drafted, so you could say my answer would be yes.
  • Certainly. I am 6th generation "cannon fodder"
  • no, I'm too old
  • no, I'm too old
  • Im 68 Do the take old farts. one foot in the grave the other on a banana peale Bush must be hard up or senile
  • If (and this is a VERY BIG "IF") the actual population/territorial integrity of the United States was threatened, then I would probably volunteer (although being over 40, I might not be accepted). However, the history of the United States is that since the Civil War, the majority of our wars/military interventions have much more to do with the US wishing to have an empire of resource-rich countries to exploit. Other than the two World Wars and the Korean War, it is difficult to cite another military action where the US was genuinely threatened. ...Or maybe someone can explain to me in simple terms why we had to invade Panama in 1989 (killing 2,500 - 3,000 Panamanians)?
  • To avoid being sent to prison, I would go. But you can bet that I would be the single most inept soldier ever to step foot into a barracks. I'd also make eyes at my Drill Seargent and blow him kisses. Hopefully, I'd be back home before the end of the day.
  • NO. I fight a war everyday on the streets of L.A.
  • Only if: 1.) I believed in the cause. 2.) They changed the rules so that I would be accepted, or even drafted. 3.) I were assigned to a task that fits my abilities. It would make no sense to send an out of shape 40 year old to be a foot soldier in armed combat. It would make sense to assign me to do software development, research, intelligence gathering, or anything else that requires sitting safely in an office in DC under florescent lights.
  • I wouldn't! There is a guy I work with that is also a fire man. I asked him, doesn't it bother you to look at the burnt bodies...he say no. He has had 3 tours of duties in Iraq. He said the first 2 where fine but the last one was so bad that nothing bothers him anymore. He is only 23 years old! At 23 he has to live with those images for the rest of his life! NO ONE should have to go through that!!!
  • Yes, I would. IF women were able to fight in a war and I got drafted then yes I would go. I would not do it in order to serve my country, listen to the goverment or to not go to jail. I would do it so that I could fight for WHAT i choose to fight for, I would want to protect my loved ones. They always say a mama bear is a scary thing to come across I do agree. BUT on the other hand I would not go for the simple fact that I think no matter how strong I think I am, I would do more harm than good. It is shoved in to boys(men)minds that they have to protect us, that is what you do. Take care of your women, so if women were over there I just think that a man would screw up a mission cuz he would be torn to do what he was taught to do by the goverment and what he was taught to do by his family and just society in general. I think though that as a woman If I ever got drafted....I would be scared of where the war was at, if they needed women to actually fight what would become!! =)
  • I did, more than once. I wouldn't go again with the Army unless they made me. A person can take only so much before breaking and this last experience put me at almost-broken. I need to save some of my mental health for my husband and children. So, no, I wouldn't go again unless the life and limb of my loved ones was in immediate jeapardy.
  • Depends on the war.
  • The key word is recruited, this means there is a choice, choice means it was my decsion to go to war was made by me and there is a difference, if were drafted and i had a option of going to prison and being ridiculed by my fellow prisoners and peers, hands down i would go to war. for a coward dies a thousand deaths, while a brave man dies but one.
  • yer course i wud go no matter what the cost avnt sed that they sed tha in ww1 n look what happened
  • In most circumstances yes. If for some reason I didn't believe in the war at all for some reason then I might not want to go. But even then I would still fight and die with rest of the men that had to go. I would rather die with dignity, then live a coward.
  • Without hesitation. 'nuff said.
  • I was drafted on July 15, 1969 and then found myself in Vietnam.
