  • New York is full of many beautiful state parks with campgrounds. The Thousand Island Area has several as well as the Finger Lakes and the Saratoga area. The one I'm trying next is Long Point State Park, almost due west of Watertown. It was rated as one of the top 100 parks in the nation in 2005. If you have children, especially boys, one of my favorite KOA Campgrounds is the Herkimer KOA in Herkimer, NY. It is connected to the Herkimer Diamond mine, where for about $10 or so, you can "mine" for your own shiny Herkimer Diamonds for the entire day. The Campground itself is along the bank of the West Canada Creek, with quite a few sites where you can here the creek rush by your camper at night. They are also affiliated with the Cooperstown KOA just about 20 miles away or so, and they even have a deal if you camp both places. Hope this helps.
