  • I think that this is trying to be proved over and over again, people want to claim that the killings in school are caused by the music that they listened to, the video games they played, the wibsites they visted regularily. I tend to think it is a desensitization caused by those, but not that the blame can be entirely put on them. I know people who do the same things as the people who have been involved in school shootings did, I know teens who spend all day playing video games in which they shoot people, and who listen to music that talks about killing people, and who watch movies about guns, and knives, and violence, and yet, they are able to handle themselves, they are able to continue to control their behavior and do not go and endanger the lives of their peers. The desensitization may make it easier for them to do it, but it doesnt cause it.
  • Well maybe but I dont think so. I think it is a lack of parenting. Teaching your children what is and isnt acceptable from an early age. But sometimes even that doesnt work so they may be bullied or mentally ill.
  • Its not all that. Teens violence is increasing. We don't blame one factor for this as number of influencing factors play their part like teens drug/alcohol abuse, bad peer group, family violence, mental disorder, bad parenting etc etc. Aside on each level their is need of constructive planning. I was really shocked when I read this news on a blog http://parentingteens.com/blog/teen-guilty-in-the-murder-of-own-father/ , quoting few lines "Just recently, CNN reported a heart-breaking news about a Berkeley teen who was convicted in the murder of his father. The victim was raising three kids on his own when one of them, for reasons unknown, murdered him with a gunshot to the head. The judge handling the case found the 16-year-old teen guilty of first-degree murder with an enhancement for using a gun in the death of his 40-year-old father." we are now used to hearing such violent acts when media portrayed it...such a pathetic
  • Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could find a single reason, blame all violent behaviour on that one thing and then ban it! I think the media has much to answer for in the way that it reports stories of young killers - they seem to always try to connect a violent teen to music or video games etc. What they don't report is that millions more kids listen to the same music, play the same games and watch the same films without feeling compelled to kill. News reports are far more frequent - updated almost instantly online, perhaps we also think things are getting worse because we see worldwide news on a daily basis and hear more of what is going on out there. I believe that society is to blame for not recognising that parents are responsible for bringing up their children - and bad parenting can produce bad kids. But I also believe there have always been bad kids and the fact that they now have access to music, video games etc does not make them any more prone to violence.
