  • Make sure I did not give her any pocket money to buy any.
  • I'd tell her that she made an idiotic decision to start smoking. I would also let her know that there's no way she can smoke in the house or even keep cigarettes in the house. Unfortunately, I can't stop her when she's out...so if she smokes with friends then so be it. I wonder if they make wrapping paper with images of burned up lungs...so whenever I give her a gift she has to open that nasty thing:)
  • I wouldn't let her smoke. Monitor exactly what she was doing on her free time and who she was going with. And probably ground her for a year. lol
  • Hi Miss! How are you? I'd give a warning and consequence the next time. Also give anti-smoking literature.
  • "You get one freebie sweetheart, and that's for being honest. If I find out you've been smoking again, I WILL find out who gave them to you and I will make their lives miserable. Then I'll cover the outside of the house in anti cigarette propaganda and I'll be sure to lecture at your school." No kids for me! I like my place without propaganda and I hate public speaking :)
  • My mother said that if she ever caught me or my friend smoking when we were younger, she was going to buy us a whole pack and watch us smoke each cigarette in it in succession. I like that idea. :P
  • Send off to a counselor. I would do anything to prevent my daughter from walking on the wrong path.
  • I would tell show her the picture of a smoking long, show statistics, Reach out to her and if that doesnt work. Take away her freedoms, I mean im only 18 so i dont know how the whole parenting situation works. But if my daughter was destroying her body which you should come to respect and cherish than you must teach her. Use sensibility and good measure first, than force if you must she will thank you later Dont give up. When have you ever heard someone say "Mom/Dad. Im so mad you never let me smoke my whole life" Make the right choice. it may not be the easy one
  • I'd figure I had failed to make her understand the negative consequences of doing so and try to educate her...maybe contact some health care professional..maybe there are movies that will show the ugliness of a smoker's lung...maybe tell her that 90% of lung cancer is due to smoking..also tell her that it is not only her lungs she is damaging but those of others as well. Let her see what long-time smokers look like..the skin is more wrinkled, the teeth can get yellow, and there is a certain unpleasant smell that comes with smoking. It does not make one look "cool"..it makes one seem very ignorant! If all of that doesn't reach her, then she will continue to smoke because you can't lock her up. :(
  • Hit her where it hurts for a teenage girl: Her appearance. Tell her that even though she might thinks she's cool for smoking, she's going to stink all the time, her teeth will turn yellow (at best), and she will develop wrinkles much faster and sooner than nonsmokers. Ask her if she thinks boys will be attracted to that in 10 years, when she's a leathery, coughing mess with gross teeth and bad breath.
  • Hit the roof. I gave up a year and a half ago now and feel I'm in a position to discourage anyone from smoking that c***. I'm always asked by kids to buy them fags from the local shop and always end up giving them a gentle lecture.
  • Hide pictures of cancerous lungs throughout the house where I know she'd find them. Pack them in her lunch, various spots in her room, the fridge, on the tv/computer, in her favorite books reaplce some of her mp3s with coughing/wheezy breathing noises (back them up first!)
  • probably smack her. then calm myself down, have a good long talk about how my family friend died in front of us from lung cancer, go into graphic detail about the pains of surgeries chemo and emphyzma... and then i'd take her to my dad. my dad turned me off cigs for life and he never knew i even tried one before.
  • I'm seventeen an have been i similair situations i don't think that stopping money or going round with her would work as personally if i really wanted to smoke it wouldn't be hard to get mates to buy them for me 2 smoke at school or as her dad smokes, i'm sure she could get them from where he keeps them. My parents always told me if they caught me they would do the whole packet thing and watch me smoke them but i doubt that would have worked much. lol if i were u i'd play the whole disappointment card like my parents always seem to do lol makes me feel dreadful. Or u can just wait it out but act really disappointed whenever you catch her or smell it and hope its just a teenage thing and she'll learn that its really not good for her. Wow gone on a bit lol but hope it helps, good luck :-)
  • I don't have a daughter, but, hypothetically... it's her life... would't buy them for her, or give her money to buy them. If you told her off she'd just hate you and do it anyway. All i'd really do is tell her to not smoke inside the house... she'd run out of money and heat pretty fast. Telling her she's increasing her chance of ill health could be an interesting conversasion... but if i smoked i'd have no ground to stand. But what do I know... I only have three years on her.
  • Tell her it is bad for her, she can not smoke at home, in the car or anywhere that she is with me...
  • I would do my damn best to get her to stop smoking at once.
  • i would tell ehr that its her choice, but it can cause lung cancer and you get seriosuly die or smoking could affect your health in the years to come. much much 2 yound 2 start smoking
  • adults need to relize that you can olny guid your kids away from smoking and alchohol and drugs. be a parent who your kids can tell you there mistakes without getting grounded. getting punnished never solves anything for teenagers.
  • I would be sooooooooooooooo angry...I would demand that she stopped and I would go online and make her look at pictures of lungs of people have smoked..if that did not do the trick then .....I would go the local Lung association and find pictures and then plaster her room with hideous pictures....believe me it would not be pretty !!!!
  • im 14, but no idont smoke,, i know all about the peer pressure and everything also, and what she is goin throough, if she is willing to quit.. buy her a whole bunch of things liek the patch, and special gum and such, and just put it in her room.. and j ust tell her its for her.. and you will always be there for her.. and you will do anything to hjelp her stop.. and name the Pros of smoking ( wich are non) and the cons ( wich are many)
  • I have a friend who's parents made her eat the tabacco. That made her so sick that she was afraid to smoke or go near it again. TOUGH LOVE!
  • I would tell her that its her choice but with every choice there is a consequence. Todays society whould probobly stone her to death since they frown upon feedom of choice.
  • Firstly I would be impressed that she told you! You must have a good relationship if she will actually admit to something like that - most teenagers would hide it. As she has just started, it will be quite easy for her to stop again - just talk it through before she gets addicted.
  • How much do I suck! I LIE about smoking!
  • I'll say that smoking may make breath and other problems for her future children. This would work, because having children ought be high in her value ladder.
  • Buy her a carton of Luck Strikes...damn they don't make them anymore do they? Umm well...get her a carton and sit down and make her smoke every one till she pukes....and then tell her you support her decision to smoke entirely. Oh and rinse and repeat this action the next morning... HA HA HA Nope...that would be child abuse and you would go to jail. Honestly, I would tell her why it was a bad idea and then lay out rules. No smoking in my house, you have to get a job and buy your own and if you encounter any legal issues regarding smoking in public or at school the cost and consequences are entirely in your court.
  • This is very hard to answer properly or correctly. You tell her she can't smoke and you have a teenage tantrum on your hands coz all the other kids smoke. You say yes and you are committing your daughter to a lifetime of debt, danger and early wrinkles. If she is in to fashion, show her the photo's the non smoking people put out, showing how it ages you prematurely. Ask her if she wants to smell like a half burned cigarette and does she want a boy, when she gets one, to say, when about to kiss her, God, you stink.
  • I would search her friends and would want her to change her friends.
  • Lisa C.
  • id try to help her quit
  • Tell her that you are proud that she takes good care of her body. She deserves to be confident about what she has.
  • First of all i will be very pleased and also congrats on speaking of a truth and then I'll tell her about pros and cons of smoking!
  • ok a few things...A. where the fu*@ is she getting them because i have a good full time job and sometimes theyre too expensive for me? B. why not tell her as long as she continues smoking she can throw up a tent in the backyard and live out there. C. Maybe at least take away any and all freedom away since she is obviously too dumb to make a good decision I only say this because i am a smoker and i know how stupid a habit it is she is only 14 and while she may act like a grown up she needs you to put a foot in her ass from time to time
  • I would tell her...did you get this from your friends, they are not cool, they're just trying to make you look bad like them, buy It's your choice!
  • I'd ask her if she was pregnant too, because if she was I'd be pissed!
  • I think the most effective way is to make her realize the consequences. If she cares about her appearance then show her what smoking does to your teeth, gums and breath. It also accelerates aging. If she enjoys doing sports then smoking is going to greatly reduce her performance. Lastly, show her the effects of lung and throat cancer. There are alot of anti smoking ads out there that are effective in showing this.
  • Tell her: If you want to smoke then smoke in front of me--not behind my back.
  • Hello everyone – My name is Lisa C. I am now 12 years old and have been smoking regularly for the past couple of years - and I would like to share my story with all of you. NO ONE SHOULD SMOKE. WEATHER YOU ARE AN ADULT, TEENAGER, CHILD, CAT OR DOG. IF YOU DO SMOKE YOU SHOULD QUIT NOW. YES I AM QUITE YOUNG RIGHT NOW AND I AM TOTALLY ASHAMED OF MY AQUIRED SMOKING HABIT. DO NOT FOLLOW IN MY FOOTSTEPS IF YOU ARE MY AGE - OR ANY AGE FOR THAT MATTER! I thought it would be beneficial for everyone to get my perspective on this smoking issue. First off a really quick history; I had my first cigarette at age of 6, believe it or not. At the time my school was located directly behind my house so each day I would walk to and from school. No more than a few hundred yards. On one particular day, when school let out it was just raining cats- and-dogs. My 3rd grade teacher, Ms Clark (not her real name) motioned me over to her car so I would at least be able to stay dry. As I was sitting in her car, I had noticed a pack of cigarettes in her purse. This was really something thrilling to me, because I did not know or believed teachers smoked. Well as stupid as I was, I ask Ms Clark if I could have one. She hesitated and gave a brief laugh and then to my utter surprise, amazement and shock, she said “sounds like a good ideal to me”. She took a cigarette and lit it and then passed the pack to me. I took one out, leaned over a got a light from Ms Clark. While I was extremely nervous, I must admit that this was something I was really enjoying. I finished my cigarette and Ms Clark was still working on hers. It stopped raining, I got down and went home. Not much developed with my smoking for about the next two years. Although I did have a cigarett now and then, but certainly not on a routine, regular basis. At the beginning of 5th grade, I think I was 8 years old then, I began to smoke quite often – a pack a day regularly. What trigger this was Ms Clark again! But certainly not her fault. My mom and I were in the bowling alley eating and Ms Clark was sitting at a table right by us. After eating my mom left briefly to go do something, make a call or something, I got up and went and sat at Ms Clark’s table. This time I did not have to ask Ms Clark for a cigarette, she offered. I accepted, and while we both were there smoking my mom had come back. She observed what was going on, and to tell you the truth she seemed unmoved by the whole episode. On one had I was surprised that she did not go through the roof, but on the other had I was pleased that she was not going to have a heart attack right there. I had really never felt the need to hide my smoking from anyone, even my mom and dad who both soon came to just accept the fact that I was a truly adolescent smoker. It is really funny, between the age of 8 and 11 I did not have too hard of a time purchasing cigarettes, but that soon ended and stores began to refuse me. This is when my mom and dad began to give me some help with purchasing my cigarettes. Smoking is a stupid thing to do and I do not advocate it to anyone, especially children as young as I. I do enjoy smoking, but this is a decision I made for myself. I am now 12 years old and I am not overly thrilled about having a smoking habit at such a young age. Be that as it may, and like I said, I do enjoy smoking. My schools (Texas schools are pretty understanding in this area) in the past, as well as my new school have really been a big help to me in providing for a safe and secure place for me to smoke while I am at school. I am not sure if I really agree with all of my schools supporting me, but I certainly was not going to turn down any of the offers and all the help that was given to me. My gosh, my current school has applied less restrictive smoking rules onto me than what they have applied to the school staff, including the teachers. To me this is ridiculous, so while I am at school, more times than not, I find myself imposing a limited smoking policy on myself. I try my best to stay on par with what the school staff and teachers have to abide by. And I think I do a pretty good job at that. I have to run for now, my youth group is meeting soon. I could write more later if anyone has any interest at all in hearing more on my perspective of adolescent smoking, Just let me know. I am not too sure if I am 8 or 9 in this 5th grade picture of me. My mom says I was smoking a pack a day when this picture was taken, but to be truthful I think smoking was still a novel thing to me and I believe I was smoking a bit more than a pack a day. Perhaps a pack and a half would be closer to the truth. Proud? ABSOLUTELY NOT!! Ashamed? YES - no doubt about it! Enjoyable? I really hate to admit this, but I do enjoy it. Stupid? Yes. Do I with I could stop smoking? Well...yes and no - I think I could stop, I am just not too sure if I really want to give it up right now. • Ask her why. Then show her pictures of people with cancer and emphysema. Also take her a hospital and show her people sick because of smoking. If she did not get it then, I would say I did something wrong or she is just too stubborn to listen. You cannot control people you can only corral them.
  • She needs a reality check. Arrange for her to meet someone who had to have their larynx removed and breath through a trach due to smoking. If that doesn't scare her, nothing will.
