The alternative to civility is perhaps worse.
-
Very much. I consider fake politeness even worse than blatant rudeness. Especially in teenagers - many of them are polite to your face, then post crap about you on myspace.
-
I wouldn't say that, but I recognize it and make a mental note.
-
Why, yes, thank you for asking. :)
-
Yes...i think people should be themselves.
-
Not really. I recognize it when I see or hear it but it is preferable to many things like rude sarcasm or no politeness.
-
No, I don't waste oil like I used to!:) Fake is not worth grinding anything of mine!
-
Oh yeah ...all the time :-)
-
Yes I do not like fake people at all....Be yourself!!
-
That's tough...politeness can almost be considered inherently fake in some situations, like with co-workers, or sales people. It definitely is angering, but I think that it can be identified and handled appropriately.
-
Not really. I mean it depends on the situation. For me, since I work in sales, it's important to always be friendly and polite to customers even if you're having a bad day. In a way, that is fake politeness, is it not? But, outside of work, I am always straight up nice to people and when they don't seem real about it, then yes it does somewhat irk me.
-
I don't think people can fake being polite. I think either you are or your not. People who don't want to be polite aren't.
-
Hmmm, let me see; fake politeness vs fake rudeness I'll take politeness, thank you.
-
Yes!!
-
Yes if you know it's fake then it's irritating and annoying. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you so much for taking the time to read my humble answer and I'm truly grateful for any points you may, or may not, award me.
-
At times, yes. But if I have no reason to be polite, why push it?
-
I'm not sure how politeness can be faked, since it is basically the act of being civil, not of being my friend. So, no, I guess it doesn't bother me. Now, the "keeping it real" attitude, as an excuse to be rude and in my face bothers me. No thanks, give me "fake" politeness any day.
-
Not really. I just consider the source.
-
Yeah...but I guess I would rather that than rudeness.
-
What is "grinding my gears"?May I learn a new one?
-
No I do it all the time in customer service with people who piss me off. Its part of the job.
-
what's fake politeness? I'm polite naturally,but to some I guess it's unusual
-
I would prefer surface politeness to rudeness. We know that all the "Have a nice Days" are not sincere but they are better than being told to bugger off or drop dead.
-
I'd rather have fake politeness than genuine rudeness. What's better? To kill someone that you hate with a passion, or to just pretend that you like that person?
-
I dislike fake politeness, but it is the lesser of two evils. So, what can you do? People have to sometimes be fake, in order to be liked. The natural person is not very likeable, and nice things have to be taught.
-
Its quite refreshing and even I encourage it.
-
Nah - synchromesh! ;-)
