I've gone running up to them like an idiot saying hello to realize that I've mistaken them for someone else. Oops. Boy, was my face red!
-
Ha, yes. Not only that, I've actually jumped on someone's back, who turned out not to be who I thought they were. Oops.
-
Quite a few times.
-
I can't count how many times I've done that...feel really stupid....some have even waved back:)
-
Yep, all the time. There are several vehicles in my town that look similar. No biggie. All that means is that I made a friendly gesture to somebody I haven't met yet. I'm very sure neither of us will have a problem with that.
-
Many times. It happens most often when I see a car that I think is one of my friends. I wave and then realize it's not them. The funny thing is that most people wave back!
-
Yes!!!!!!!!! And they wave back, then I crack up!LOL
-
oh yeah and whistled and even walked up and slapped a couple of ladies pert bums thinking they were friends ...lol
-
lol i have. and then the funny thing is that they thought i was somebody else too so they waved back =) [we found this out the next day and then started talking.]
-
IIRC I saw a women at a Whole Foods market that looked sooo much like my wife that I walked up to her and stopped just short of... .....:0 ...tapping her on her shoulder. ;) I think that's about the closest I've come to doing that.
-
Used to wave to this bloke because I thought the car he was driving was someone else's car, well they were the same model and colour but the ladders and stuff on top were different??? Anyway I thought I was waving to one persona and it turns out I was waving to someone I didn't know - I still wave and they still wave back...still don't know who they are and we have never spoken but we still wave.
-
All The Time
-
I do it all the time.... and when I see I'm wrong, I do one of two things... if its a guy I generally say... " Wow that was a really bad pick up hint ... or a great case for why I need glasses and try and laugh it off...." if its a girl I generally say " Oops.... you aren't "insert name here"... don't mind me..its one of those days and laugh it off.... I don't mind the strange looks i get and its kinda fun to watch other people laugh with you no AT you... at least they told me they were laughing with me.....hmmmmmmmm
-
Yea and the funny thing about it is that they wave back like they know me :)
-
at least once a week. But then again, I'm Meg - Idiot Girl
-
weren't the right person or were the wrong person? in my part of the world we routinely wave at strangers.
-
All the time. I have poor eyesight.
-
Yes lol I really have.
-
I do it all the time, my "Office" is a 2 mile by 3 mile complex with more than 5000 people. Driving around work I see friends all the time and honk and/or wave. Get it wrong sometimes.
-
Not only wave. But I've talk to the person only to realized that I don't now her/him..It always happen to me when I'm in the supermarket.^_^
-
yes, embarrasingly so !
-
Hasn't everyone? But, where I am, everybody waves back, anyway. They are probably wondering why they don't recognize you. Ha!
-
Worse than that I once gave a wet willy to someone I didn't know thinking it was a friend of mine!!!
-
lol...Yes ALLWAYS..its soo imbarrising
-
Oh, plenty of times...and then I felt like an idiot.
-
Oh my gosh - yes - its SOoo embarassing!
-
I've done that, and I've done much worse. Once, while walking home, I noticed my mom's car stop next to me (I thought she got off work early and decided to come pick me up.) I get in the car, look to my left, and there sits a woman I've never seen before. I said "Oops, wrong car." and got out. Turns out she was just someone with an identical car stopping for the stop sign.
-
Yes, I have and so I happened to remember the time that it happened to me, something my Mother had told me in a simular situation. Just finish the wave and then go on about your own business. Acting like you hadn't even done it. Sometimes you have to be a good actor.
-
Yeah, and one further, I talked for about a half hour on the phone to this girl's sister (who sounds just like the girl I thought I was talking to) Luckily she thought it was funny and we became pretty cool friends
-
Oh my god YES! I actually walked up and apologized.
-
Yes, its so embarrassing! I hate it when someone in their car honks the horn and waves, and you wave back, but they were waving at the person behind you! And you wave just in case you know them because you can't really see them from behind the windscreen!! I hate it XD
-
My friend went up to someone, from behind, and gave her a BIG hug and put his face next to hers (like kind of in her neck) and then realized.. it wasn't me. It was so funny!! Fortunately she was a wife of an aquaintence -- and not uptight/upset. He was so embarassed, because he didn't have "that kind of relationship" with her. Poor guy. hehe!!
-
From time to time. Positive identification can be important.
-
Yes, I have done it a few times, my friend just did it the other day. He was very embarrsed.
-
Yes many times only to feel pretty silly when it is nothing like the person I thought it was.
-
Yes! VERY embarrassing!
-
haha yes. It's so embarrasing later. Similar other things have happened to me too.
-
i've waved to someone who i thought was waving at me but they were actually aiming it at the person behind
-
Really funny incident happened late at night when I was walking to my car in the parking lot. I thought this one woman looked like Nancy who I had been working with. I said something to her and when the woman turned around to my shock that it was someone completely different. I was embarrassed and then sloughed off to my awaiting car.
-
All the time. After my realization, however, I pretend that I really do know them, making them try to think of who the heck I am. Rather fun, actually.
-
Yes. And then, they look at you weird. It's not weird! Many people look alike.
-
Many times and i feel pretty stupid. I wonder why that is?
-
Oh yes! Once it opened the door to a new friendship! We had a good laugh, chatted and ended up meeting for coffee. We are still friends to this day! I don't think I would ever be truly embarrassed for being friendly, considerate, or sharing a laugh!
-
I've hugged someone who wasn't the right person
-
Yes. I belive most people have done it sometimes.
-
yeah but what was weird is that they waved first
-
Yes, it's an opportunity to make a new friend.
-
Yes, but it's no big deal. People wave around here all the time to people they don't know, especially while driving...they're just being friendly, saying hi.
-
I ran up to a guy that I thought was my friend at this massive gathering at my college. I hugged him and whispered, "you look hot today." He turns around.. and it was definitely the wrong person. Although, he was also pretty attractive.
-
Oh God, yes! Very embarrassing. I always pretend I was waving away a fly...
-
even worse: i've kissed a strangers head by accident. whoopsie. and, in grade school, someone in a grade younger than me came up and hugged me. i had no idea who it was. lol
-
Yep! But a great way to recover is to put your hand on the back of your head and pretend to be thinking of something!
-
yes, its even when worst I realize it was for the person next to me! :)
-
Yup, most of the time I just say, sorry, I thought you were someone else.
-
Actually, once at a soccer I leaned on a womans leg thinking they were my mom. Opps.
-
I think everyone has.
-
Yes. LOL. Once I realized, I tried to play it off like I was waving to someone else.
-
Yup I've done it. I've also confidently walked up to someone and said their name, which wasn't their name. :/
-
My mother did one better. Took her to the bank to cash a check. waited and waited. Two identical colored cars were parked side by side in the bank parking lot. My mother goes to a strangers car, opens the door, sits down and begins a conversation, with a stranger. Had to drag her out of the wrong car and place her in my car. She was 85 years old and sometimes forgets a few things.
-
Yes. I hate when that happens.
-
LOL! I've done this very thing so often that I've actually pretended to still wave at someone BEHIND the imposter... For some reason, it's better that a total stranger believes me to be mentally ill than near-sighted...
-
yup. and the other way around. it was like *ooOops*. embarrassing. ;))
-
Well it wasn't exactly waving at them.... Before school started one day i went to say hi to one of my friends by her locker i saw her kneeling down looking for stuff in her locker then i went up to her kicked her lightly on her shoe and yelled out hi happily! Only to find that she was not my friend but someone else that i didn't know at all. When i saw her face she looked really frightened. i said i was sorry and went off.
-
Yes, but I'm in Texas, so it's not too bad. People just assume you're being friendly.
-
Hahaha I think I am the queen for that, waving at people who are not there
-
I was taught to wave back if someone waves, they might know you, and you might know them, and it is just polite. sometimes you know someone, even though you thought it was someone else. And you might remember who they are later, and wish you had waved. even if you never see that person again, be polite and wave, it may make them fell better at that moment, and that is a good thing.
-
Yeah...and then you you meet them you say, I'm sorry, I'm suddenly having a brain fart and I just forgot who you were.
-
Yeah i hate it because then the person that you waved at gives you a mean look or they start thinking that you are really weird when you're not
-
I've done that more times than I care to admit. To play it off, I pretend to be shooing something away. :-)
-
it happend only once and i hope it never happens again! sooo embaressing
-
oh god, yes...and i was sooo embarassed every time i've done it!
-
Oh yes, many times. Most people will look a little confused, but they usually wave back.
-
Hell yeah! It's so embarrassing! There was one time where I walked up to this guy thinking it was my dad and was holding onto him until I looked up. "You're not my dad!" HAHA
-
of course
-
I've done more than that, when i was a kid i ran up yo my Dad in a shop and hugged his legs only to discover it was a complete stranger.
-
oh gawd, worse, I made kinda a let's fight gesture(thinkin it was a friend who I joke around with)........talking about embarrassing, luckily lol he thought it was funny.
-
Hell yes. It's a great game. You choose a victim who can't get to you and wave vigorously and confidently. Make sure you make eye contact. They'll spend the next few minutes wondering who you are.
-
I've had entire conversations with people like that... My hubby has a bad habit of walking away while im talking to him, and I dont realize it until the guy in line at the store actually says "Lady, thats nice but... he's over there."
-
u know what u came up with a good ? i do that least 3 times a month but my town has 10,500 people and some change
-
Yeah I must have looked like a dork.
-
many times!! ive chased one guy only to realise no, he wasnt my friends dad, i just ran past lol. my bf has touched my sisters ass thinking it was me (even though im a dress size smaller!) loads of incidences :)
-
yeah, that's happened to everyone. I always laugh really hard. I think its really funny.
-
yeah and they waved to mee back! haha
-
A few times.
-
Yeah quite a few times. I used to feel like an idiot, but now I just shrug it off like nothing happened.
-
oooh yeah aaall the time...sometimes purposefully too :)
-
yes alot of times. it was an akward moment lol
-
Ever now and then. I actually remember when I was a small boy, I hugged a woman from behind who happened to be wearing the same shirt as my mom. Extremely embarressing, and if I remember correctly, surprised the shit out of the random woman. Luckily I was just a little kid, so I was quickly forgiven.
-
There's nothing wrong with a kind gesture to a stranger.
-
can't say that I have
-
Yes, I have. If I realize that I don't know them fast enough, I just act like I'm scratching my head!!
-
Yes hate it when that happens makes ya feel really dumb lol
-
I have done that but I usually tell them and we both laugh about it.
-
Every Day In my car.
-
More times than I can count.
-
OMG...too many times! I try to play it off as if I'm trying to shake something off my hand. :-) It's so embarrassing!
-
LMFAOO YESS some people can be a bitch bout it and look at you like your a creeper and other people , just smile and laugh , i smile back to those people.
-
yes I have done that several times its so embarasing
-
Yes, many times. I did it once in Port Authority in New York, the other person waved back, and she ran to me until she could see that I was not who she thought. The she walked up to me and asked if I knew her, or if I just needed some help.
-
ALL the time!!
