Julia Child if she were alive..she was an incredible chef and really funny ("If it doesn't turn out quite right---just tell your guests that that is how it is supposed to taste!!")...but I would have to say now Nigella Lawson..not because she is a trained chef (because she's not) but because she cooks sensually..and turns food into an almost erotic experience.

Michel Richard because he has such fun in the kitchen and loves baking as much as cooking. And maybe Ferran Adrià because he knows everything before anyone else does, is teaching the whole world how to cook and is always exploring and having food adventures in a kitchen.

Its a tough question because there are so many fantastic new and old chefs out there, Thomas Keller has been around for a long time and has just recently given birth to Grant Achatz...either one would be great...Michele Bras is often overlooked and an absolute dynamo in the craft...Adria of course and all of his friends, Arzak, Torreblanca, et al., one of his great protegees, Jose Andres in DC..or, my current obsession being Italy, Massimilliano Alejmo...Google that name, find the book or go to Italy, one way or the other, Alejmo is cutting edge beyond his years...
