When the landlord changed in 1836 It went from the Rio Grande north to encompass what is now Texas and parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma and I think up into Kansas and Nebraska. The place was enormous. Spain referred to it as the 'frontera'. By the 1820's the standard tract given to a colonist or Mexican moving there was roughly 10 square miles with options to aquire more. (Can you imagine having to mow that...lol.) It was called a league and a labor. the league for the live stock and a labor, about a 100 (I think) acres for crops.
