Sounds like a bad alternator. An auto parts store can check for you if you bring it in. Usually has 2 bolts holding it, and a power wire. Simple job. Depending on the car, should be under $100.00 for a rebuilt one as long as you let them keep the old one.

If it's not the alternator (It's pretty easy to test) check to make sure the regulator hasn't blown. My Laser had a similar problem, and the alternator appeared fine. Took me while to figure it out, but :)

Buy and install a rebuilt alternator (most cars about 60 dollars).

A lot of good suggestion here on how to fix it yourself. What I do when my car won't start is call AAA to send the mobil service.

Possible problems alternator, voltage regulator or the drive belt is worn or not tight enough.
