An 800 MHz (MegaHertz) CPU is capable of making 8,000,000 computations per second. A 2.8 GHz (GigaHertz) processor is capable of making 28,000,000 computations per second.

mushroomModern processors may make more or fewer "calculations" during any one clock cycle. The focus on clock speed alone is less relevant than all the ancillary built-in features, and has reached a point where few factory original processors are clocked higher than 4GHz.
