  • Adopted an adult cat (5 yrs old) from the animal shelter 2 years ago named Flyer. The kids, however, like Michael Jackson so... ...the cat is now called M.J. Flyer.
  • Now that's funny! I like it. Thanks. :)
  • I named my dog Charley after the dog in the book "Travels with Charley" by John Steinback. I knew Charley would be traveling with me.
  • Our cat is Carina. When she stepped out of a pillowcase my mother brought over, 15 years ago, she was little and thin. My daughters, who spoke Italian as their first language, both said, when they looked at her "Che carina!" (How cute!" So Carina she was, and still is.
  • Great picture of Charley! Thanks for the info. :)
  • Ferdinand (our fat cat) was named after King Ferdinand, because he thinks he is royalty (we call him Ferdy for short) Buddha (our weirdo cat) was named because he had a big belly and is quite the pacifist, all he wants in life is a belly rub :) He looks like he is in a constant state of bliss. Dante (our dog) was named after the Italian Poet, Dante, who wrote the Divine Comedy. I just loved the name and the story (it's not really any deeper than that) Rosie (my horse) is the biggest no-brainer: her registered name is Bey Derby Rose, so Rosie was the obvious choice :)
  • I had a dog that had 8 puppies and out of the 8 she put one out of the dog house it was in feb and it was really cold at 6 am my husband went out to check on them before going to work and he came in with this little puppy he was frozen and very stiff he put him in my hands and I told him he was dead but he said that he heard a little sound coming from him when he picked him up so I put dish towels in the microwave to warm them and I began to rub him trying to get some kind of response but I got nothing my husband left for work and I was working on the puppy I pulled ice out of his mouth and worked on trying to warm him up and still nothing and I said dear God if this puppy is alive please give me a sign and all of a sudden the puppy let out this ever so soft moan and I was so happy I kept heating up dish towels and rubbing him and after about 2 hours he started coming around he is now 5 yrs old and I named him Lazarus.
  • And I am sure each of your "babies" look just like their names too, huh.....:) This is so cool, thanks. :)
  • My dog's name was Juliette...named after Juliette Binoche the famous French actress. Well, because I love French movies and everything French.
  • Ducky and Jethro (like the TV show NCIS). I didn't name them, the rescue that we adopted them from did. I kept Ducky and named the other dog Oscar. Ducky is supposed to be a Cocker Spaniel, but I suspect he is half King Charles Cavalier. He's a bitty thing and has the short King C snout and buggy eyes. First dog I have ever seen with an underbite too. Ducky just fits him, so we kept the name. He's the little buff colored guy. Oscar did not look like a Jethro. We picked Oscar in memory of my faithful friend of 13 years who passed away this summer. He was a Cocker Spaniel named Ben (I didn't pick that name either). He was afraid of his own shadow, but when it came to protecting his humans, he was serious. We jokingly called him our Homeland Security detail and my boyfriend called him Officer Ben. That same boyfriend is in the military (reserves USAF), and they love their NATO alphabet (rolls eyes) so he was dubbed Oscar Bravo or OB for short. Hence the Cockapoo in the picture is Oscar (the curly black and white dog). The other dog (red and white) in the pic was adopted a few weeks before we picked up Oscar and Ducky (these pics were taken at the rescue).
  • Hubby and I are very interested in Ancient Egyptian lore, so when we realized our dog had a very scary growl (to other people, not us)we named her Asha, ancient Egyptian for Voice of Set. I got my other dog from my neighbors who had named him Tony (my #1 sons' middle name), so I renamed him Tubby, but we put him on a diet, and now we call him Toby. Holly: put your comments in the comment section, not in the answer section.
  • We had had a Himalayan cat who became our fuzzy emperor of our house. He came with the name Cocoa puff which was too innocent and sweet for him so we called my Fuffer for being so fluffy. He died and we were very sad. We needed a new Emperor. So I was looking online at the local shelters and recuse places and there was a cat that was called Caesar! and he was a Himalayan, too, only he was also Manx, no tail:-) So we adopted him and in no time he had all the other cats and us bowing and scraping to do his bidding. Her is still with us, and is the cat in my avatar:-) Also my name here was the name of one of our dogs. We have Newfoundlands and they are excellent water rescue dogs. I once read a story, an old tale, about a lovely lady who was in love with a young man who, her family didn't approve of. So they locked her up on an island surrounded with the roughest seas. But each night her lover would magically swim these rough waters and spend the night with her and swim back before morning. I thought it was such a beautiful tale, I named our water loving dog after it.
  • My dog's name is Lord Michael Moon. He came to us with that name when he was 18 mos.old. He is called Mikey. We had planned to change his name, but then my bossy neighbor, who's husband is also named Michael told us change the name. Just to spite her we kept Mikey's name as Mikey. It's perfect for him. He is so cute and will eat anything.
  • I manage some how after awhile I fall asleep but sometimes I make him get off the bed but after about 5 or 10 min he is right back in the bed and most of the time I fall asleep before he comes back to bed.But whats really funny he is scared to go outside if its dark he will wait until he can't hold it any longer and then he will run outside and potty and run just as fast as he can to get back inside and when he gets in he is so happy he dances around.I say it is his victory dance he conquered the dark and nothing got him HA!!HA!!
  • Bacon, my granddaughter named him because whenever she comes to my house she wants bacon. I gave Bacon to a co-worker whose cat died recently, so she wouldn't be lonely. Toast, because he had an attitude when he first came here, and I told him "If you don't change your ways, you're toast!" He is now the most affectionate and clingy cat I've ever met. Cookie, because she looks a little like an Oreo cookie, white belly, dark back Muffin, got him at the same time as Toast. Coffee, all black cat. Precious, which is the name of the girl who gave her to me (Precious is a fairly popular name for girls in the Phillipines.)
  • "Chuck" is a rescue girl who was chucked out on a busy street. Colin is my standard poodle guy who is named after an old boyfriend. His kennel name is Ch. LeeFran's Flight of Fancy. Lacy (my avatar) was named after a friend's neice. Her whole name was (she died in May) Piccadilly's Black Lace Teddy, C.D. Her mother's name was Piccadilly's Victoria's Secret - so you see the connection.
  • Piccadilly is the kennel name, just like LeeFran. Lacy died as a result of some neurological "accident" like a stroke or something similar. I'd had her at the vet's the day before for observation - I sensed that something was wrong, but didn't know what. I woke up around 4a.m. and she was not in bed. I went to her, and it was clear she was in trouble. She began having seizures, and died in my arms as I was carrying her to my BF's car to go to the emergency vet. I'll never have a dog as great as she was.
  • My dog's name is Cooper. For D.B. Cooper, the guy that stole all the money, jumped off a plane and was never heard from again. That story fascinates me.
  • We once had a litter of kittens, there were four of them. The first one was small, thin and short haired, we called him Jagger. The next one was very chubby and furry (rolypoly), we called her Rol. The third kitten had almond shaped eyes with a black line coming out of each outside corner, we called her Ling. The last kitten was a total goofball, always doing something silly, or dead to the world sleeping, no in-between for him, we called him Stone. So we ended up with (mick) Jagger and the Rol Ling Stone.
  • Puddy is the name of my cat, he is kind of a dip, like the guy from Seinfeld.
  • my dalmatian is called Tegan. We chose that name as we live in Cornwall and Tegan is a celtic name. As for our chocolate labrador, we named him Woody as he's big and chunky!!
  • My dog's name is Kitty. I thought it would be funny to say, "Here, Kitty.." and a dog come running up. We had a cat once named, Deville, because my husband found her under the hood of a Coup Deville. Devil would've suited her better..
  • All our cats came as strays. Roman is called such because he's a flight risk and loves to go roamin' all over the neighborhood. Trouper was deathly sick as a kitten when he found us and went through a lot of meds and tlc before getting healthy; he was a real trooper. Lilo wasn't quite socialized and needed a little extra attention (like the character from Lilo & Stitch).
  • My sister has a miniature schnauzer. They have beards, and are very distinguished looking. She named him Albus after the headmaster in Harry Potter.
  • My dog's name is Harliquin. She is a tri-colour rough collie, so her name sort of originated from the fact that she has three colours which would mean a harlequin. But to make it original I changed the 'e' for an 'i'.
  • my german shepherd---thunder... He has lion paws and when he wakes up and runs around the house, all you hear is like "BOOM BOOM!"
  • My pets all have mythology themed names. The cats are Loki and Fenriz (never name a cat after a prankster god - you're just setting yourself up for trouble) and the dogs are Kallisti (Greek for 'for the fairest', which was on the golden apple that started the Trojan war) and Sirius.
  • I actually named my puppy Cody because after our first dog lady died i had the same dream a few times, and in the dream she had a son named cody.
  • Nana and Hercules. I own 2 Staffordshire Bull Terriers. I named Nana after her breed, "The Nanny Dog" and also after NaNa from Peter Pan. I named Hercules his name because he looks so tough but he is such a softie! I should have named him Fernando!
  • Tyson,it is a name of his father[when i saw mu pup's father i just wished my pup will be just like him, big, strong, powerful, extremely clever and selfconfident male]..and he was the first born in the litter, the biggest one and the dominant one..he deserve to carry his fathers name..Today he is just like his father... Before i had a working German Shepherd Chips, named him after the K9 hero of 2nd World War...he was a brave heart..i will always miss him..
  • My dog is named Daisy. I asked everyone on Answerbag what they thought her name should be and Daisy won. MsFortunate suggested it. My cat is named Blanche because my partner likes to give old lady names to animals. Her cat is named Dahrisss. We have a dog we just adopted named Jack. That was his name when we adopted him. She has dogs named Ollie, Beau, and Grace. I don't know why she chose those names. She also has two birds named Elmo and Buddy. Again, I don't know why. We have a turtle named Edna that I got for my birthday. Capt Jack Sparrow and Sugarlicious gave him to me. He is named Edna because of the above stated reason.
  • i have a mixed terrier called biggy coz he was so tiny when we got him but had so much attitude, skyler the husky cross german shephed with big blue eyes, alex the crazy shephed coz alex means lawless in latin and was the guy in clockwork orange, sirius the collie from the book of the same name about the collie that learns to talk and goes to college.
  • my uncles rat terrier/chihuahua mix is named scooter, because he has nerve damage in the back right leg so he can only use three of them.
  • Bear...do I really need to explain why...Oh well tried to post a picture but you know AB
  • I have a black cat named Mouse, because he was the runt of the litter and looked just like a mouse.
  • I named my puppy Cookie because she reminded me of a little oreo cookie.
  • I have two horses One named Pie because he looks just like Jimmy Stewarts horse who was also named Pie and the other is named Moonbeam because he is a buff colored horse with pale blue eyes and looks like a moonbeam, I have silver Mackarel Tabby cat named Zedar because his fur looks like cedar bark and Zedar is the German word for cedar.
  • My royal pythons name is Titan, i gave her that name because it suits her power and her characteristics:)
  • I have a cross jackrussel akido and her name is Chikita which means small in Spanish. I also had two Alaskan Malamutes whose names where Tundra which means a cold treeless climate. Tornak was the male and his name was Tornak. The Inuets would pray to Tornak for protection over the evil spirtits.
  • My last two cats were named Spider and Bubby. Spider was named so because whenever he came in from outside he was always covered in spiderwebs. Bubby was just that, a bubby. He was scared of everything. I bought him a mechanical mouse and he ran away from it. He was scared of birds and strangers. Used to live a lot of time under my bed. They are both dead now and I miss them terribly.
  • I have a dog named Phoenix. I got her right after a particularly rough time in my life, and I had just moved and gotten a new job - I was ready for a fresh start in lots of ways. So I named her Phoenix, as in the mythological bird that rises from the ash and begins anew. She's an awesome dog, by the way. :)
  • Well, I have 5 pets..so I'll keep it short by sharing my two dogs names. Bruce: a black lab who had 8 siblings. He had a slight white patch on his chin that made him little different from his brothers...so I named him after the B movie actor Bruce Campbell who is known for his prominent chin. Max: I named Max after the character Max Fisher from the movie Rushmore. It's one of my favorite movies and something about the obnoxious personality of the character made me think of my obnoxious puppy!
  • Major and Petey. I got both from shelters. Major already had his name and it seemed to fit. He is full blooded American Bulldog. Petey is a Rat Terrier Basenji mix I think. He was called Poochy at the shelter and that just wasn't gonna work. Everyone thought Major should be Petey because he reminds them of the dog Petey on the old Little Rascals series. Well since I didn't want to change Major's name I gave Petey to Poochy. The rest is history.
  • Kitten - my cats name is Cyrus but I always called him kitten and he doesn't have a clue that his name is really Cyrus... So I gave up and he is officially Kitten.
