  • To put it simply, bleed air is air that is released from a particular source, usually an engine or APU that is used for any one of a set of purposes. Bleed air from the APU, which is at a high pressure, is blown across the fans of the jet engines to get them turning during the ignition process. Bleed air is really just a term that is used to specify releasing air from a source to use it for something else.
