Papillion. Sorry, I'm a BIG fan of Steve McQueen.
-
Very close, but my vote would go to The Green Mile, a great film :-)
-
Shawshank Redemption for me.
-
OH POOP! All of these AND Papillion are excellent movies!!!! ACK ACK I can't pick just one...depends upon my "mood."
-
The Green Mile
-
'Luke' - there was NOTHING attractive about his imprisonment, as in reality! what the heck kind of messages are we sending to youth these days with shows like 'Prison Break' etc?
-
None of the above. O Brother Where Art Thou. True, it doesn't take place in a prison but all three of them are runaways from a Mississipis prison though and they are after them through out the whole movie. This is an instant classic and a must see. Quotes: Delmar O'Donnell: We thought you was a toad! Homer Stokes: Those boys desecrated a burning cross! lysses Everett McGill: You ever been with a woman? Delmar O'Donnell: I gotta get the family farm back before I start worrying about that. Ulysses Everett McGill: Deceitful, two-faced she-woman. Never trust a female Delmar, remember that one simple precept and your time with me will not have been ill spent. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0190590/quotes

"Penitentary" by far
-
The Green Mile with Shawshank a close second.
-
There is no way I can choose just one from these three. They are all excellent.
-
Shawshank Redemption but only just! The Green Mile is a VERY close second! Red wins it for SR! But I must confess, I have never seen/heard of Cool Hand Luke! Will try and see it soon.
-
They are all good
-
A vote for the Shawshank Redemption here, with Dead Man Walking in second place. How you could not put that on the list I have no idea.
-
Green Mile, makes me cry everytime, but shawshank very close too.
-
Shawshank
-
It is a 3 way tie!!!!!!!!!!1
-
There is another great prison movie: The Last Castle.
-
The Green Mile
-
Murder in the First, it's based on a true story. Very compelling. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_in_the_First

All three of them are good. But I think there are other prison-focused films that are deserving of some recognition too. Some of these aren't necessarily prison-focused but prison is a definite theme in them. American History X The Hurricane Papillon Escape From Alcatraz The Great Escape Brubaker Dead Man Walking Murder In The First Silence of the Lambs Escape from New York Chicago Bridge on the River Kwai Birdman of Alcatraz Jailhouse Rock Chicken Run Stalag 17 Midnight Express
-
Cool Hand Luke.
-
Van Damme's Death Warrant!
-
Oh my god not fair two out of three are equally my favorites and so hard to choose between shawshank redemption and the green mile but since it can only be one I will have to agree with Chopsy and go with the Green Mile with Shawshank coming in a very close second.
-
of those, The Green Mile is my favorite. Shawshank is a close second.
-
shawshank
-
I would have to say that the Shawshank Redemption is the best. In my opinion. I just love when Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins hug on the bech. *tear*
-
You picked the best ones and this is so hard but I will pick ,"The Green Mile"
-
Shawshank Redemption....It's the only one where justice (eventually, and finaly) prevails.
-
