My father's family were Water Gypsies on the canals of Yorkshire they were dirt poor. My mother's family were Middle class. I grew up poor but now have a comfortable life with my husband and family. So I guess Middle class but I hate being classed at all, I am very proud of my background and grateful for all I have.

Is there one below poor? If not, I'll have to pick poor.
-
Working class to lower middle.
-
Middle class I'd say until my parents divorced. Our neighborhood was fairly new but not fancy and certainly not gated. We weren't rich but lived comfortably until my mother had to start working after my dad left the house. We still were able to stay in the house from dad paying child support but didn't have much after that.
-
Poor to middle class depending on when.
-
Blue COllar middle class. My parents were raised in the depression, and were never too flashy with money even later on when we had a little. We were a single income family in a generation when many houses had two incomes, but we did ok. As the yongest of five, I had a lot of hand me down clothes from three older brothers, but I never went hungry and always had a lot of love.

We bounced around from poor to lower middle class. With one income and five children, money was always tight, but we kids never really realized it until we were much older. I would say that is why I still don't need many "things" in my life. Family is all that really matters.

Dirt poor to just plain poor. Every now and then, my step-dad would hold a job long enough to get us up to poor, but not very often. I was never so glad as when I started working (full-time at 14), so I could buy MEAT. To this day, I still won't have a meal without meat of some kind, unless I'm eating my Post Great Grains Crunchy Pecan cereal, which I'll eat for any meal.

You know, I saw an interesting video once that had the interviews of a wide range of people in the US. Everyone called themselves 'middle class'...some said 'upper middle class' and others said 'lower middle class' but they all claimed to be in the middle class....with incomes ranging from 15,000 a year to one couple making 400,000 a year....I think everyone will probably claim middle class. Frankly, my family and I are poverty level.
-
I'm probably in the money bracket of low class, but have standards of most high classers. (Kinda)
-
Grew up lower middle....now probably upper middle....depends on how you define the classes. My dad was a factory worker, but always managed to provide the best he could from food, toys, companionship and especially education
-
middle class but struggling to maintain it

I grew up in the projects. We later became middle class. I guess.

I take exception to the word 'lower'. I am from a proud working class background.

I would characterize my parents as stupid abusive pieces of sh*t. I'm glad they're dead. And I hope for them Hell is real and they go.
